-Urban railway connecting Geomdan and the city center opens…Accessibility to northwest Incheon greatly improved-
Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that it successfully held an event commemorating the opening of the Geomdan Extension Line of the Incheon Urban Railway Line 1 at the new Geomdan Central Station (Station 102).
The event was organized to celebrate the opening of the Geomdan Extension Line, which connects the Geomdan New Town with the Incheon city center, and to share the positive changes that the expansion of the urban railway will bring to regional balanced development and citizens' daily lives.
The event was attended by over 300 people, including Mayor Yoo Jung-bok of Incheon Metropolitan City, Kang Hee-wook, Chairman of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Daegwang Committee, Mo Gyeong-jong, Member of the National Assembly, Incheon City Council members, representatives from relevant agencies, and local citizens. The event featured various programs such as a pre-ceremony performance, awards for meritorious individuals, commemorative speeches, a ceremony, and the first ride of the new line.
The newly opened section extends from Gyeongyang Station, the existing terminus of the Incheon Urban Railway Line 1, to Ara Station (Station 101), Sin-Geomdan Central Station (Station 102), and Geomdan Lake Park Station (Station 103), totaling 6.825 kilometers, with three new stations added. Construction began in December 2019 and was completed in approximately five years. Regular operations will commence with the first train on June 28.
In his commemorative speech, Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok said, “Geomdan is a key growth hub that will lead the future of Incheon. Now, citizens will be able to connect to the city center more quickly and conveniently, and children will be able to commute to school more safely. All these changes are not just the completion of infrastructure, but a starting point for connecting citizens' daily lives and leading the balanced growth of the entire city.”
Meanwhile, the Incheon Urban Railway Line 1 Geomdan Extension Line has been promoted with safety and quality as top priorities since the construction stage, and Incheon City plans to continue its efforts to provide urban railway services that citizens can use with peace of mind.
