Cheongna International City vows to bring the City Tower project back on track

Incheon creating new bus routes for areas no longer serviced by the I-MOD
▲ Based on I-MOD traffic data over the past year, SongdoInternational City divided its districts east and west to reorganize its busroutes. Here, it used the Korea Coast Guard office, which turned out to be themost frequently used destination for local residents, as a central axis.Moreover, the City added four more buses for its Circular 41 and Circular 42buses each, bringing the total to a dozen buses for each route. With its Smart Challenge PilotProject (I-MOD) ending on December 31, 2022, Incheon has developed solutions toaddress some of the inconveniences experienced by its residents in Songdo andYeongjong International Cities, both of which had been hosting the I-MODinitiative. Based on results from analyzingmobile communication data and I-MOD traffic over the past year for theintra-city circular bus route, Songdo International City divided its districtseast and west to reorganize its bus routes. Here, it used the Korea Coast Guardoffice, which turned out to be the most frequently used destination for localresidents, as a central axis. Moreover, Incheon added four more buses for itsCircular 41 and Circular 42 buses each, bringing the total to a dozen buses foreach route. Service intervals will also go from 18~24 minutes to 23~28 minutesand from 13~17 minutes to 12~16 minutes, respectively. Meanwhile, YeongjongInternational City created a new public bus route and assigned five buses. Incheon rising as a future mobility hub
City to focus ondeveloping connected car technology and establish a new organization supportingrelated certifications Incheon is a pioneer inthe automobile industry. Some may question the city’s credentials in the autoindustry, yet a closer look at Incheon’s history in the Korean automobileindustry reveals just how important the city has been to the development ofcars in Korea. In August 1962, with the establishment of Korea's first modern automobilefactory in Bupyeong, Incheon left an indelible mark in the Korean automobileindustry, and at the same time, became a nursing ground for Korean automakers. ▲ Incheon MetropolitanCity developed what it calls the “Comprehensive Plan for Fostering the FutureAutomobile Industry of Incheon,” which involves investing KRW 110.4 billionover five years to restructure the auto parts industry, one of the region's keyindustries, by upgrading related technology in a way that better responds tofuture mobility, and to make Incheon a hub of the future automobileindustry.(Image is a rendering of a future car.) In fact, at the veryfoundation of Incheon's manufacturing industry is the automobile industry. Theautomobile industry ranks second in Incheon's manufacturing sector, but theautomobile market is shrinking by 5% in size every year due to the recentshrinking of the internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle market. This is aclear sign that the automobile market is possibly entering a recession, whichmeans the City’s priority should be to restructure the industry and focus moreon future modes of mobility. “Ganghwa Sum Ssal” on its way to Canada

Incheon Subway adding six more trains to Incheon Metro Line No. 2
New additions expected toimprove congestion for line no. 2 between Unyeon Station in Namdong-gu andGeomdan-Oryu Station in Seo-gu Relief is on the way tosave Incheon Metro Line No. 2, which runs from Unyeon Station in Namdong-gu toGeomdan-Oryu Station in Seo-gu, from its chronic congestion problem. Accordingly, from 2018 to2022, Incheon invested KRW 42.5 billion to improve the capacity of IncheonMetro Line No. 2. The City Government assembled six new trains and upgraded thesubway system with new electrical wires, tracks, signals, and communicationequipment. ▲ With the introduction ofnew trains, trains on Line No. 2 will arrive at stations 24 seconds quicker,from 3 minutes and 20 seconds to 2 minutes and 56 seconds. With the introduction ofthese new trains, the total number of trains in service will go from 37 (74cars) to 43 (86 cars), trains will run more often from 460 times a day to 477times a day (17 times more), and trains will arrive at stations 24 secondsfaster, going from 3 minutes and 20 seconds to 2 minutes and 56 seconds (duringrush hour). Moreover, in the case of the Gajeong Jungang Market-Seoknam(Haseon) section, peak congestion during rush hour was 149.8%. This will dropby approximately 15% once the new trains come on line. Incheon asks the government to upgrade the Battle of Incheon event to a national event
▲ On December 19, theMayor of Incheon visited the Ministry of National Defense and met with MinisterLee Jong-sup to ask for the government’s support in upgrading the Battle ofIncheon event to an official national event. The City Government requestedcooperation between Incheon and the Ministry of National Defense to incorporatethe 75th Anniversary Event for the Battle of Incheon next year as part of thenational celebration of the ROK-US alliance. Incheon Metropolitan Citysaid that Defense Minister Lee Jong-sup agreed with Incheon's proposal toupgrade the Battle of Incheon event to a national event.
