Incheon City has announced that it will conduct a pilot project for drone-based pest control until November 30th to prevent the spread of malaria.

The strategy is to preemptively block malaria transmission in anticipation of an increase in malaria cases, expansion of affected areas, and frequent outdoor activities expected in the fall. The city has selected 10 insect-prone sites within Michuhol-gu, including redevelopment areas, forests, and riverside regions, where drone pest control operations will be carried out once a week for a total of 9 times.

Incheon City, which was the first in South Korea to enact a drone ordinance, is pursuing various projects to establish a foundation for the drone industry and strengthen its competitiveness. These efforts include supporting drone public services, building a smart marine environment management system, supporting drone testing and evaluation, providing drone experience and job training, and attracting drone infrastructure.
