Incheon Shantytown Residents Continue 17-Year Tradition of Giving Back


Residents of Incheon’s shantytown community have upheld their 17-year tradition of charitable giving to support those in greater need.

The local self-sufficiency center, Incheon Tomorrow’s House, announced yesterday (20th) that residents of the shantytown, along with users of a free meal service and a homeless shelter, donated 2,744,380 KRW to the Community Chest of Korea.

The funds were raised through the collection of scrap paper and metal, as well as the production of shopping bags at the shared workspace in Gwaengiburi Village. Since starting this initiative in 2008, their cumulative donations have reached 27.5 million KRW.




Incheon Police Tighten Patrols Until End of Lunar New Year Holiday


The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency, in collaboration with the Incheon Autonomous Police Commission, has implemented special crime prevention measures during the Lunar New Year holiday.

Until January 30, the police will increase patrols in areas with frequent 112 emergency calls, jewelry stores, and other businesses that primarily handle cash.

In the event of significant incidents or accidents, rapid response teams and mobile task forces will be deployed for immediate action.

A police spokesperson stated, “We aim to ensure citizens can enjoy a safe and peaceful holiday by fully enforcing these special measures.”



Overseas Korean Students Complete 4-Day Cultural Journey in Incheon


Incheon hosted the closing ceremony and activities for the 2024 Next-Generation Overseas Koreans Invitation Program, organized by the Overseas Koreans Agency and coordinated by the Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center.

This initiative seeks to foster identity and pride among next-generation overseas Koreans while building connections with domestic students.

During their four-day stay in Incheon, 220 university students lodged at the Grand Hyatt Incheon and participated in identity-building education, team-building exercises, and cultural programs. They also attended a lecture highlighting Incheon’s role in global history, from its opening as a port to its modern-day status as Korea’s gateway city of “firsts and bests.”





“Incheon Love Donation” Event Offers Ganghwa Island Rice for Lunar New Year


To celebrate the Lunar New Year, Incheon Metropolitan City will gift Ganghwa Island rice to donors participating in the Incheon Love Donation program.

Thirty donors who contribute 100,000 KRW or more to the program by January 30 will be selected through a draw to receive a 4kg package of Ganghwa Island rice.

The donation initiative, introduced in 2023, allows anyone residing outside of Incheon to contribute to the city. Donors are eligible for tax deductions, with full deductions for contributions up to 100,000 KRW, and are rewarded with various gifts in return.
