Public-led Offshore Wind Power Project in Incheon Takes Its First Step

A project led by Incheon City, Incheon Housing and City Development Corporation, Incheon Techno Park, and other public organizations to develop large-scale offshore wind power at three locations off the coast of Incheon has taken its first step.

On February 19th, Incheon City signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy at the city hall to advance the ‘Public-led Large-Scale Offshore Wind Power Development Project.’

From 2022 to July of last year, Incheon identified three potential sites for the wind power project, located to the west of Deokjeokdo in Ongjin-gun and in nearby exclusive economic zones (EEZs).

The city plans to develop a total of 2GW (gigawatts) of offshore wind power across these three sites, considering factors such as military exercises, shipping lanes, and the impact on fishing activities.
