Incheon Releases 700,000 Young Blue Crabs into the Sea near Eulwang
Incheon’s Fisheries Resources Research Institute has released 700,000 young blue crabs into the waters near Eulwang in Jung-gu to help restore local crab populations.
These crabs, which hatched in mid-May, are healthy and over 1cm in size, having passed disease screening.
It usually takes 1 to 2 years for them to grow into adults, and they are expected to help increase fishermen’s income starting as early as next spring.
Island Visitors to Incheon Increase by 23% from January to May
Thanks to the “Incheon I-Sea Pass” program, which lowered ferry ticket prices to city bus fare levels, more people are visiting Incheon’s islands.
Between January and May this year, 293,994 people used local ferries—an increase of 23.4% compared to the same period last year.
Among them, Incheon residents made up the majority with 250,984 users, more than five times the number of people from other regions (43,010).
Incheon Pushes to Restart UNESCO Geopark Designation for Baengnyeong and Daecheong
Incheon is working to restart the process of designating Baengnyeong and Daecheong as a UNESCO Global Geopark, which was halted after North Korea objected.
The city is now in close talks with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Unification, and the Ministry of Environment to find a diplomatic solution.
North Korea officially sent a written objection to UNESCO on May 19.
Incheon responded the same day, asking UNESCO’s secretariat for detailed reasons and also contacted the Korean mission to UNESCO, awaiting their reply.
Multiple Bills Submitted to Bring Maritime Court to Incheon
Several lawmakers have submitted bills to establish a special maritime court in Incheon—a long-held goal for the region.
So far, 32 lawmakers from various parties (17 from the Democratic Party, 14 from the People Power Party, and 1 from the Reform Party) have supported the legislation.
The proposed bills would amend laws to officially designate Incheon as the location of the maritime court and define its jurisdiction and authority.
An Incheon city official said they will work closely with politicians, the legal sector, and the public to make this happen.
Incheon’s “Half-Price Delivery” Service Hits 500,000 Packages in 8 Months
Incheon’s affordable parcel delivery service for small businesses has been well received, reaching 500,000 shipments in just eight months.
This program allows merchants to send packages from subway station hubs starting at just 1,500 won—about half the usual price.
A survey in March found that the service helped many small business owners open online shops and increase sales.

As global changes reshape supply chains and accelerate digital transformation, IFEZ is stepping up as a key city for international economic diplomacy.
The forum is expected to strengthen Incheon’s role as a hub for Korea-China cooperation.
Incheon Invests 3.8 Billion to Use Drones for City Management
Incheon is investing 3.795 billion this year to build a drone-based system for managing the city in 3D.
Projects include testing drones, setting up systems for managing the marine environment, and building a city-wide drone infrastructure.
In the future, starting in 2026, Incheon also plans to launch a “Smart Marine Village” project using drone technology.
Incheon Tourism Organization Showcases Wellness and Medical Tourism at Korea Beauty Festival
From June 19 to 22, the Incheon Tourism Organization and Incheon Metropolitan City will take part in the “2025 Korea Beauty Festival,” the largest K-beauty event in the country, held at Dongdaemun Design Plaza in Seoul.
They will run a special booth to promote Incheon’s wellness and medical tourism content to visitors, especially women in their 20s and 30s.
Participating wellness destinations from Incheon will offer expert programs and on-site experiences to better connect with visitors.
