Incheon Deploys Response Teams to Address Ginkgo Nut Odor Complaints This Fall
Incheon announced that it will operate mobile response teams through November to address odor complaints caused by ginkgo nut during the autumn season.
Excluding Ongjin-gun, where no ginkgo trees are planted, the city will deploy 97 members of response teams across nine districts and counties to carry out early fruit collection and cleanup of fallen ginkgo nuts.
Each district and county will use vibration harvesters and collection nets to focus cleanup efforts around high-foot-traffic areas such as bus stops, crosswalks, school routes, and traditional markets.
Incheon Recruiting Participants for Second-Half ‘Agricultural Machinery Safety Training’
Incheon is now accepting applications for the “2025 Second-Half Agricultural Machinery Safety Training.”
Aimed at preventing safety accidents among farmers and improving their machinery operation skills, the program includes both hands-on training and safety education on the use of agricultural machinery such as cultivators, tillers, tractors, and excavators. The course consists of one hour of theory and two hours of practical training to help participants enhance their real-world operating skills.
The training will be held six times between October 28 and November 20, with each session running from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Incheon City Council Pushes for Free City Bus Rides for Seniors Aged 65 and Older
The Incheon City Council is moving forward with a plan to provide free city bus rides for seniors aged 65 and older.
The council announced that it has submitted the “Ordinance on Transportation Welfare Support for the Elderly in Incheon Metropolitan City” to the 304th Extraordinary Session, which will be held from October 14 to 23.
Under the ordinance, seniors aged 65 and older who are issued a transportation welfare card will receive financial support from the city budget when using city buses.
While the ordinance designates all seniors aged 65 and older with a transportation welfare card as eligible, it also allows the mayor to limit the scope of beneficiaries each year depending on the city’s financial conditions.
Incheon United’s Stefan Mugoša Named Honorary Citizen of Incheon
On October 8, ahead of the match against Suwon Samsung, Incheon Metropolitan City presented Incheon United FC’s key striker Stefan Mugoša with an Honorary Citizenship Certificate of Incheon Metropolitan City.
Since joining Incheon United in 2018, Mugoša has played a central role on the team and has made significant contributions to enhancing both the club’s and the city’s reputation as the club’s all-time top scorer.
Incheon awards honorary citizenship to domestic and international figures who contribute to elevating the city’s standing and advancing the local community. Beginning with Panama City Mayor Juan Carlos Navarro in March 2003, Mugoša has become the 33rd honorary citizen of Incheon.
Celebrating the Beauty of Hangeul Through Reading, Walking, and Writing… Incheon Hosts Festival for the 579th Hangeul Day
On October 9, the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, in collaboration with the National Museum of World Writing, held a Hangeul Day Festival under the theme “With Hangeul! To the World!” at Songdo Central Park Lawn Square and the surrounding area of the National Museum of World Writing Systems to commemorate the 579th anniversary of Hangeul Day.
The Hangeul Day Festival is one of the three major “Read, Walk, and Write” festivals organized by the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education and was designed as a citizen-participation event to share the excellence and beauty of Hangeul with the public.
The festival featured a variety of programs, including a history lecture by educator Choi Tae-sung titled “The People Who Protected Hangeul,” a special lecture by literary scholar Lee Ju-young commemorating the 100th anniversary of Lee O-deok’s birth under the theme “Writing Our Language and Words Correctly,” and a talk session with Park Chun-hyu, writer of the musical “Maybe Happy Ending,” which won six Tony Awards.
Incheon Culture & Arts Center Presents Family Puppet Play ‘Sancho and Don Quixote’
The Incheon Culture & Arts Center will stage the family puppet play “Sancho and Don Quixote” by Art Stage San from October 23 to 25 at its Small Theater.
The performance is part of the center’s “Children’s Classic Stage” series, which introduces literary masterpieces tailored to a child’s perspective.
The play “Sancho and Don Quixote” is also part of Incheon’s “1,000-Won Culture Ticket” program, through which approximately 800 children will attend group viewings on October 23 and 24.
Michuhol Volunteer Center to Host ‘Dengdeng Festa,’ a Pet Culture Festival
The Michuhol-gu Volunteer Center in Incheon announced that it will hold the “2025 Michuhol Pet Culture Festival – Michuhol Dengdeng Festa” on October 18 at Alleyway Incheon’s Ssukgol Plaza.
Being held for the first time this year, the festival aims to promote a healthy pet culture in the era of 10 million pet owners, encouraging harmonious coexistence between pets, their owners, and the local community to create a happier Michuhol.
The event will begin with an opening ceremony and feature a range of activities, including the “Michuhol Dengdeng Family” pet photo contest, dog training and behavior consultations, grooming consultations and free basic grooming services, pet emotion cards, DIY dog toy workshops, caricatures, and other interactive experiences and events.
As a pre-event program, the “Michuhol Dengdeng Family” pet photo contest will accept submissions until today. The center will select ten finalist entries, with the final winners chosen through on-site voting during the festival.
 
Ongjin-gun Opens Smart Senior Center
Ongjin-gun in Incheon has recently opened a Smart Senior Center, marking the beginning of a new era of digital welfare for the elderly.
The Smart Senior Center Project focuses on transforming senior centers from simple resting places into comprehensive welfare hubs that encompass health, leisure, and learning.
The center offers a variety of programs—such as real-time health education, singing classes, and information on various welfare policies—through large, easy-to-use screens designed for the convenience of older adults.
