Asiana Airlines to Relocate Operations to Incheon Airport Terminal 2


Asiana Airlines will relocate its operations to Terminal 2 at Incheon International Airport starting at midnight on the 14th. As one of Korea’s two major national carriers, Asiana transports an average of 930,000 passengers per month at Incheon Airport. Following the move, passenger distribution between Incheon Airport’s two terminals is expected to shift from 65–35 to an even 50–50 split, easing congestion at Terminal 1.





Ongjin-gun Population Declines for Third Straight Year


The population of Ongjin-gun in Incheon fell by more than 300 last year, marking a third consecutive annual decline. According to the county, the registered population stood at 19,636 at the end of last year, down 360 people, or 1.8 percent, from 2024. The county attributes the decline to natural population decrease, as well as the introduction of the “Incheon Sea Pass,” which lowered ferry fares to public transportation levels.





Jung-gu to Subsidize Food Waste Reduction Devices for Homes


Incheon’s Jung-gu has announced a 2026 Household Food Waste Reduction Device Subsidy Program. The initiative covers up to 50 percent of the purchase cost for household food waste reduction devices, in a bid to promote efficient and sustainable reduction of food waste. About 700 households are expected to benefit from the program this year.





Ganghwa-eup Village Leaders Hold First Meeting of 2026


The village leaders of Ganghwa-eup, Ganghwa-gun, Incheon, held their first meeting of 2026 at the township’s office conference room. The meeting included an appointment ceremony for newly designated village chiefs. Participants shared a renewed commitment to strengthening communication with residents, improving village environments, and addressing everyday inconveniences to create more livable communities in the year ahead.





Incheon Library Hosts Art Critic Lee Joo-heon’s “Happy Art Stories”


Incheon Library will host a lecture series by art critic Lee Joo-heon. The lecture series will begin Feb. 2, and come as part of the library’s 2026 1st half art humanities program. Titled “Art Storyteller: Happy Art Stories Told by Lee Joo-heon,” the lectures present famous artworks through engaging storytelling to make art more accessible and approachable for the public. Participants will explore themes of happiness, creativity, and broader humanistic meaning through art appreciation.





Red Cross Incheon Branch Recieves Special Contribution From City Council


The Korean Red Cross Incheon Branch says it has received a special contribution of two million won for 2026 from the Incheon Metropolitan Council. The donation ceremony was attended by Council Chairperson Jeong Hai-kwon, Red Cross Incheon Branch President Jo Eui-young, and Hwang Jae-cheol, head of the Incheon Volunteer Association. The funds will be used for humanitarian activities, including support for vulnerable groups and families in crisis, as well as disaster relief efforts across Incheon.





Integrated Wireless Communication Network to Be Built for Subway Lines 1 & 2


The Incheon Transit Corporation is set to integrate the LTE-based railway wireless communication networks of Subway Lines 1 and 2, which have been operated separately.

The corporation has signed a service contract with a KT-led consortium and held a project launch briefing on the 9th. Operated separately by line until now, the railway wireless network is a critical communication system used for train operations, traffic control, and emergency response.






Slaughterhouses to Open Early for Stable Supply of Meat During Holidays


The Incheon Institute of Health and Environment says slaughterhouses will open earlier to ensure a stable supply of beef, pork, and other livestock products ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, when meat consumption is expected to surge. An analysis of last year’s slaughter volume shows daily averages of 75 cattle and 1,428 pigs in the Incheon area. To meet the demand, slaughterhouses will open one hour earlier than usual at 7 a.m., from Jan. 12th through Feb. 4, on a total of 12 days, excluding Thursdays and Fridays. The institute says the adjusted schedule will help ensure smooth supply and distribution during the holiday period.
