Incheon Moves Toward Becoming a “Judicial Hub”
Incheon is taking concrete steps toward becoming a “judicial hub.” The Incheon City Council will hold a public hearing on the 16th to explore mid- to long-term plans for judicial development in the city, following the establishment of the Incheon High Court as well as the opening of the northern branch of the Incheon District Court and the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office. The hearing is designed to go beyond attracting judicial institutions, and will focus more on systematizing the city’s overall judicial infrastructure and discussing ways to innovate judicial services for the citizens. Through these efforts, the city council aims to nurture Incheon into a “legal and judicial hub.”
Review Underway to Adjust Fishing Permit Quotas in the Five West Sea Islands
For the first time in a decade, plans are underway to review adjustments to fishing permit quotas by fishery type in the waters around the Five West Sea Islands. Incheon’s Ongjin-gun said it commissioned a study last year to assess fishery resources in the area, which includes the islands of Baengnyeong and Yeonpyeong. The study, involving the West Sea Fisheries Research Institute under the National Institute of Fisheries Science and the Korea Coastal and Marine Ecology Institute, cost 200 million won, and aims to secure baseline data, including catch volumes, to determine appropriate permit quotas and vessel numbers for the Five West Sea Islands. The county plans to request adjustments to the permit quotas from Incheon Metropolitan City based on the study results, which are expected in September.
Incheon Global City Moves Forward with Overseas Koreans Town Project
Incheon Global City has unveiled its new corporate identity, announcing it will move ahead with Phase 3 of the Overseas Koreans Town project in Songdo. Incheon Global City is a public development agency in the Incheon area, and its new CI takes the shape of an infinity symbol formed by two connected circles. One circle represents 7.08 million overseas Koreans and the other symbolizes Incheon’s 3.04 million residents. Phase 3 of the agency’s Overseas Koreans Town project involves the construction of 1,700 housing units for overseas Koreans. Located in Songdo’s District 11-1, the town is scheduled to break ground in June.
Incheon Institute: ‘Strengthen Experience Economy Through Local Creators’
The Incheon Institute has released a report titled “Building a System to Activate & Utilize Local Creators to Strengthen the Experience Economy in Local Commercial Areas.” After seeing continued growth in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, sales in Incheon’s local commercial districts began to decline as of 2024. In the report, the institute suggests strengthening the experience economy by leveraging local creators to enhance the competitiveness of neighborhood business districts. An official said it is necessary to establish a systematic support framework so that local creators who grow in Incheon can inject new vitality into local commercial areas.
Yeonsu-gu Establishes Plan to Improve Outdoor Advertising
Yeonsu-gu has established plans to promote a healthy advertising culture for a safer, more pleasant urban environment. The district’s “2026 Outdoor Advertising Improvement Plan” focuses on four areas: cracking down on illegal advertisements, fostering an advanced outdoor advertising culture, managing public posting facilities, and operating the Outdoor Advertising Review Committee. To systematically address illegal advertising, the district plans to operate an automated warning system, require prior review by the outdoor advertising department during permit and licensing processes, and implement a reward system for reporting and collecting illegal advertisements.
Seogu Library Recruits Participants for Self-Directed Book Clubs
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education Seogu Library announced it will recruit participants for the “2026 Self-Directed Book Clubs” from the 13th to the 25th of this month.Any reading group of five or more members active in the Incheon area is eligible to apply by downloading an application form from the Seogu Library website and submitting it by email or in person. Selected clubs will receive a range of benefits, including books for group activities, access to library spaces and equipment, and customized guidance from experts. The clubs will take part in regular reading discussions and a variety of post-reading activities from February through December.
