Coast Guard launches fuel-saving measures for patrol vessels

The Korea Coast Guard has implemented fuel-saving measures for its patrol vessels to take proactive measures against prolonged oil price hikes caused by the Middle East conflict. As part of the plan, vessels are required to maintain an economical speed of 15 knots or less when entering and leaving ports, while 13 large hybrid ships have been advised to prioritize electric propulsion during low-speed operations. The Coast Guard also plans to reduce fuel and spare parts loading within limits that do not disrupt operations. A dedicated task force has been launched to eliminate waste factors and further reduce fuel consumption through analysis of monthly fuel usage.

Annual support per vessel ranges from three to six million won, depending on vessel size.

Sudokwon Landfill faces ground stability concerns as waste input volume drops

A decline in landfill waste at the Sudokwon Landfill Site is raising concerns over ground stability following the ban on direct landfill disposal of municipal waste. According to the Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC), about 220 tons of sludge are generated daily at the site in Seo-gu, Incheon. Since the ban took effect this year, the volume of municipal waste used alongside sludge for landfill has dropped sharply, potentially affecting ground stabilization.  In response, the corporation is considering lowering fees for residuals from intermediate treatment, from 147,497 won per ton to below 100,000 won, to increase input volume and maintain stability.

The second phase of Incheon’s “Hui-mang Incheon Small Business Management Stabilization Fund” for 2026 will be provided starting March 30. The program aims to ease financial burdens of small business owners and support local economic recovery amid slowing growth and rising raw material costs. The initiative is being carried out in three phases throughout the year, with the first phase, worth 100 billion won, already fully exhausted due to high demand. The second phase will provide 114.5 billion won in funding, with around 3,000 businesses expected to benefit from the financial support.

Incheon to expand bus information displays to improve access in underserved areas

Incheon Metropolitan City will invest 2.06 billion won to expand and upgrade its bus information terminal (BIT) system to improve public transportation access in underserved areas. The project aims to reduce regional disparities in bus arrival information by installing displays in areas with limited transit access. By providing real-time bus information more conveniently, the city expects to enhance overall user experience. A total of 220 new bus information displays will be installed between March and December this year.
