Incheon supports 12 universities with ‘1,000-won breakfast’ program
Incheon Metropolitan City will support 12 universities with the “1,000-won breakfast” program this year to promote healthy dietary habits with breakfast consumption, and boost demand for locally produced rice. Participating schools include Incheon National University, Inha University, Inha Technical College, the Incheon campuses of Gyeongin National University of Education and Chungwoon University, Yonsei University’s International Campus, Gachon University’s Medical Campus, SUNY Korea, George Mason University Korea, the University of Utah Asia Campus, Ghent University Global Campus, and Jaeneung University. The program is funded jointly by the government, local authorities, and universities, allowing students to purchase breakfast for just 1,000 won. The city also plans to supply 23 tons of locally produced rice this year to help expand consumption of regional agricultural products.
Incheon secures national funding for manufacturing worker support project
Incheon Metropolitan City is launching the “Basic Connection Project” this year to ease housing and living burdens for manufacturing laborers and improve employment stability. The project was selected through a Ministry of Employment and Labor public contest, securing 800 million won in national funding for a total project size of 1 billion won. According to the city, the initiative aims to address commuting burdens and workforce outflow caused by the spatial separation between residential areas in new towns and industrial job hubs. The project will also promote local economic revitalization and create mutually beneficial jobs by utilizing traditional markets and local platform-based labor.
Incheon to provide medical support for low-income single-parent families
Incheon Metropolitan City will implement the 2026 medical expense support program for low-income single-parent households to ease financial burdens caused by unexpected accidents or illnesses. The program covers part of out-of-pocket medical expenses to help stabilize living conditions and is funded through the city’s gender equality fund. Eligible households must have an income at or below 65% of the median income. If a family member incurs more than 500,000 won in medical expenses, up to 1 million won per household can be provided. Expenses incurred within one year of the application date can be combined for support eligibility.
Incheon recruits participants for ‘100 Dads’ Group’ to promote shared parenting
Incheon Metropolitan City is recruiting participants for the 8th class of “Incheon 100 Dads’ Group” for 2026, in partnership with the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association’s Incheon branch. The program encourages fathers to take a more active role in parenting and aims to foster a culture of shared childcare. It serves as a representative parenting support initiative where first-time fathers share experiences and build bonds with their children through various online and offline activities. Applications are open to 100 fathers living in Incheon who are raising children born between 2018 and 2023.
Incheon pushes comprehensive fine dust reduction measures for cleaner air
Incheon Metropolitan City will implement 78 fine dust reduction projects across six sectors in collaboration with related institutions, including the Yeongheung Power Plant, Incheon International Airport Corporation, and the Incheon Port Authority. The city has set its 2026 target concentrations at 17㎍/㎥ for PM2.5 and 32㎍/㎥ for PM10. The measures focus on key emission sources such as power generation, industry, transportation, ports, aviation, and fugitive dust, while also aiming to reduce greenhouse gases and protect vulnerable populations.
During the winter season, when pollution levels peak, the city will strengthen controls through a seasonal management system and implement emergency reduction measures when high pollution alerts are issued.
