Automated Currency Exchange Kiosks To Be Installed At Five Incheon Subway Stations
Incheon Metropolitan City will install automated currency exchange kiosks at five subway stations by next month to improve convenience for both domestic and international travelers. The machines will be installed at stations with heavy foot traffic, including Bupyeong, Incheon Terminal, Technopark, Gyeyang, and Geomam. They will support exchange of up to 15 foreign currencies into Korean won, while also allowing users to purchase major currencies such as the U.S. dollar and Japanese yen.
Deokjeokdo Marine Fishing Park Project Downsized Amid Delays
The long-delayed offshore fishing park project on Incheon’s Deokjeokdo Island will be scaled down due to rising construction costs. As part of the downsizing, Ongjin-gun announced it will exclude the observatory from the original plan. Initially launched in 2022 near Jinri Port, the project was designed with a 4.5 billion won budget to include fishing facilities, decks, and an observatory capable of accommodating 200 to 300 visitors simultaneously.
Incheon Women’s Welfare Center Wins Six Medals At Skills Competition
The Incheon Women’s Welfare Center’s social education program students have won six medals at the Incheon Skills Competition held from April 6 to 10. A total of 10 participants competed, four in hanbok, and six in fashion design. They won two gold, two silver, one bronze and one encouragement award. The center credited the results to consistent hands-on training and structured, customized instruction from instructors.
Construction Begins On “Healing Flower Island” Project In Jawoldo
Construction has begun for Ongjin-gun’s “Healing Flower Island” project on Jawoldo Island starting April 1. The project aims to create a local government garden across a 20-hectare plot of land on the island with walking trails and wildflower landscapes overlooking the sea. The total budget for the project is 10 billion won. Ongjin-gun plans to develop walking paths and flower gardens on an 11.9-hectare site as the first phase by January of next year, and complete the project by 2029 following the acquisition of the remaining land and additional development.
Incheon Launches “i-Island Wave” Program To Empower Rural Youth
Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon Tourism Organization will be recruiting participants for the “2026 Incheon Rural Youth Capacity Building Program: i-Island Wave” until the end of this month. The program aims to support young people seeking opportunities and settlement in rural and fishing communities while leading local innovation. The program has been dubbed “i-Island Wave” with the hope that young people will become the “wave” that leads regional change for a sustainable future, after receiving support for settlement and starting businesses. Participants will take part in workshops to identify key regional challenges and develop solutions, followed by customized consulting to refine execution strategies.
Namdong-gu Seeks Participants For Food Service Support Program
Incheon’s Namdong-gu will recruit businesses until May 8 for its “2026 Management Innovation Support Program for Food Service Industry.” Fourteen restaurants will be selected to receive up to 1.5 million won worth of consulting in areas such as management, menu development, and marketing. Businesses wishing to participate can check the application form and required documents on the Namdong-gu Office website, and submit them to the office’s Food Hygiene Division by May 8. Selected businesses will receive one-on-one on-site consulting from professional firms.
Incheon To Award 20 Public Nurse Scholars With 10 Million Won Scholarships
Incheon Metropolitan City’s “2026 Incheon-style Public Nurse Scholarship Program” is going into full operation, and will select 20 students this year. The program aims to secure a stable supply of essential medical personnel within the region and to enhance public medical services. Eligible applicants are fourth-year nursing students recommended by universities nationwide. Twenty nursing students selected for the scholarship will receive up to 10 million won and must serve for two years at the Incheon Medical Center after graduation.
