The inaugural Incheon Rice Culture Festival, hosted by the city and organized by Incheon Technopark, concluded successfully after a two day run. Held from April 25 to 26 at SangSang Platform in Jung-gu, the festival drew strong public interest and showcased the value of local rice. SangSang Platform is a historic site once known as Asia’s largest grain warehouse, adding further significance to the event which has been organized as a “cultural content-type festival,” combining exhibitions and hands-on experiences beyond simple sales. It aims to revitalize a market dampened by declining rice consumption and convey the value of Korean rice to citizens in an approachable way.





Incheon Seeks Climate Solutions in Urban Forests


The Incheon Institute of Health and Environment has announced plans to conduct a quantitative study on the environmental effects of urban forests based on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s i-Tree Eco program. The study aims to scientifically quantify the multifunctional effects of urban forests and comprehensively calculate their ecological and economic values. Urban forests are considered a key green infrastructure for achieving national greenhouse gas reduction targets and responding to the climate crisis. The study, utilizing the i-Tree Eco program, will focus on three urban forest sites in Incheon from April to October, when plant growth is most active. Findings are expected to support scientific valuation of urban forests and inform tailored green space policies and carbon management strategies.





Incheon Prepares Comprehensive Response Against Prolonged Middle East Conflict


Incheon Metropolitan City is preparing a comprehensive response to minimize damage to the local economy caused by the prolonged conflict in the Middle East. Local small manufacturers and the broader economy have been facing mounting difficulties as the conflict between the United States and Iran has continued for two months. The city plans to implement practical, field-oriented measures across three key areas: support for exporters affected by the Middle East situation, assistance for small business owners and farmers, and measures to stabilize public livelihoods. The comprehensive package includes 25 detailed projects and is expected to create synergy with the previously announced supplementary budget for livelihood support.





Ongjin-gun to Correct Cadastral Records for 45 Uninhabited Islands


Incheon’s Ongjin-gun plans to complete cadastral record corrections for 45 uninhabited islands and 71 parcels of land by next month. Cadastral records document land locations and ownership based on surveys. The correction project targets areas where records do not match actual locations, including 25 uninhabited islands in Deokjeok-myeon, 11 in Yeongheung-myeon, eight in Jawol-myeon, and one in Yeonpyeong-myeon. These discrepancies stem from limited access and technical constraints at the time of initial registration.




Incheon Expands Late-night Childcare Services for Elementary Students


Incheon Metropolitan City will expand late-night childcare services, allowing access until midnight for families with elementary school children. The program is part of the city’s “i+ Childcare Support” initiative aimed at tackling low birthrates. Operating hours at local childcare centers will be extended from 9 p.m. to midnight to support parents facing unexpected overtime or urgent work. Guardians can access the service from 6 p.m. on weekdays by contacting a call center (032-425-7327) or the representative number (1522-1318) at least two hours in advance to be connected to facilities immediately available nearby.




Incheon Expands Senior Job Programs, Combining Income and Social Value


Incheon Metropolitan City is significantly expanding its senior job program in 2026 and will host promotional and sales events featuring products made by senior participants. The city will invest 241.9 billion won to provide jobs for 55,646 seniors, an increase of 250 from the previous year. A total of 47 organizations, including local governments and senior welfare centers, will participate. Programs will be categorized into four types: public service, skills-based roles, community business groups, and employment support, tailored to participants’ abilities and needs.
