Incheon Tightens Control on Election Campaign Banners


Incheon Metropolitan City is stepping up management of campaign banners ahead of the upcoming local elections. On April 30, the city held a meeting with working-level officials in charge of outdoor advertisements from 10 districts and counties. During the meeting, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety’s guidelines for managing election advertisements were shared and specific on-site enforcement standards were discussed. In particular, thorough on-site management for changes starting with this election, such as the installation of designated display stands after reporting voter solicitation banners and the autonomous management of candidate exterior banners were emphasized. The city also plans to encourage the use of official banner stands and digital public display boards to prevent the proliferation of banners during the election period. 





Absentee Voting Registration Deadline Set to May 16


Voters wishing to cast absentee ballots in the June 3 local elections must register by May 16. Those who have recently moved must complete their new-address registration by May 12 to vote in their new district. According to the Incheon Metropolitan City Election Commission, eligible absentee voters, which include hospitalized individuals, people with severe disabilities, and residents in remote areas, can vote by mail after registering for absentee voting. Registration forms can be submitted via the district, city, or county office website, in writing, or by mail. If submitted by mail, it must be received at the post office by May 15 and arrive at the relevant agency by 6:00 p.m. on May 16.





Incheon Opens Integrated Tax Filing Centers Through June 1


Incheon Metropolitan City is operating integrated tax filing centers across its ten district and county offices through June 1 to assist residents with local income tax reporting. Taxpayers can file online, by mail, or in person. Online filing is available through WeTax. With the end of special provisions for application of penalty taxes, officials warn that failure to file local income tax, regardless of comprehensive income tax filing, may result in penalties.





Hit Play ‘Shear Madness’ Comes to Incheon for Just 1,000 Won


Incheon Culture & Arts Center is bringing the hit interactive play “Shear Madness” to local audiences from May 15 to 16. As part of the city’s “1,000-won Culture Ticket” program, residents can enjoy the globally popular audience-participation mystery at a highly discounted price. Tickets have sold out immediately upon release, highlighting strong public interest.





Gyeyang-gu Green Barley Field Opens to Public on May 15


A large green barley field in Gyeyang-gu will open to the public from May 15 through June 21. The site, covering 25,000 square meters in Seonjuji-dong, features barley, poppies, and baby’s breath flowers. Gyeyang-gu invested a total of 35 million won this year to plant 440 kg of green barley seeds and 10 kg of poppy and baby's breath seeds at the Gyeyang section of the Gyeongin Ara Waterway. In preparation for the opening day, the viewing paths were reorganized and rest facilities, such as parasols and chairs, were installed. The opening will coincide with the 2026 Gyeyang Open International Archery Competition, creating a festive atmosphere for visitors.





Bupyeong Wins Top Prize in Drone Survey Competition


Bupyeong-gu has won the top award at Incheon’s cadastral drone surveying competition, recently held at Seonhak Stadium in Yeonsu-gu. This competition was organized to enhance the drone utilization capabilities and practical skills of officials in charge of land re-survey. Bupyeong-gu received an overall excellent evaluation in drone operation capabilities, surveying accuracy, and deliverable production capabilities. The district will now represent Incheon at the national competition hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in September.





Incheon Expands Support for Socially Isolated Students


The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education has partnered with Happitory and the Korea Association of School Social Workers to support students experiencing social isolation. The three organizations have signed a business agreement which focuses on early identification, customized support systems, and recovery programs for at-risk youth. They have also agreed to cooperate on establishing an integrated support model, and supporting the psychological recovery of teachers working with vulnerable students.
