Incheon Wins Top National Award for Senior Employment & Social Participation Program
Incheon Metropolitan City has received the top prize in the Ministry of Health and Welfare's comprehensive evaluation of senior employment and social participation programs for 2026.
Incheon ranked first among the nation's 17 metropolitan and provincial governments, earning the top honor for the second consecutive year. With the honor, the city has reaffirmed its leadership in senior employment policy, earning and earning national recognition for its outstanding performance.
Last year, Incheon worked closely with 47 implementing organizations, including district governments, senior employment support agencies, and senior welfare centers, investing 241.9 billion won to provide a wide range of job opportunities for 58,221 older adults.
The program was recognized for helping seniors lead more active lives while increasing their income.
Incheon Concludes 12th Public Data and AI Utilization Competition
Incheon Metropolitan City has successfully concluded its 12th Public Data & AI Utilization Startup Contest, recognizing innovative startup ideas and services that combine public data with AI.
This year's competition was renamed from the Public Data Utilization Contest to place greater emphasis on entrepreneurship in the era of AI Transformation (AX).
The event attracted 178 submissions, more than double last year's total of 71.
Entries competed in two categories, Idea Planning and Product and Service Development, with winning teams receiving a total of 27 million won in prize money, along with a Certificate of Commendation by the Mayor of Incheon.
Ongjin-gun Reviews Military Family Honor Ordinance After ACRC Recommendation
Incheon’s Ongjin-gun, the only local government in South Korea without an ordinance honoring distinguished military service families, is reviewing the adoption of such legislation following a recommendation from the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC).
According to Ongjin-gun, the commission recommended in May that the county enact the ordinance by the end of this year, as it is the only one among the nation's 243 local governments without one.
The Distinguished Military Service Family program, introduced in 2004, recognizes families in which three consecutive generations have faithfully completed their mandatory military service.
Families selected by the Military Manpower Administration are eligible for benefits such as discounts on public facility admission and parking fees.
Ongjin-gun said it had considered introducing the ordinance two years ago but was unable to move forward because it lacked meaningful benefits to offer eligible families.
Incheon Grand Park Opens Water Play Facilities Through August 23
The Incheon Grand Park Office will operate water play facilities through August 23.
This year's facilities include the Incheon Grand Park Water Playground, which proved popular after opening last year, and Azalea Stream Forest, a nature-friendly recreational area.
The facilities will be open Tuesday through Sunday, while Mondays will be closed.
Building on last year's accident-free operation, the park plans to maintain strict safety measures, including regular water quality testing, on-site safety personnel, and fully stocked first-aid supplies.
Incheon City Theatre Captivates Gyeongju With Original Play
The Incheon City Theatre Company has successfully staged its original play, "Welcome to Incheon?!,” at the 17th National & Public Theatre Festival held in Gyeongju on July 17 and 18.
The production drew enthusiastic responses from audiences across the country by introducing Incheon's history, culture, and urban identity in an engaging and entertaining way.
The National & Public Theatre Festival is one of Korea's leading performing arts festivals, bringing together public theatre companies from across the country to showcase outstanding original productions while promoting artistic development and cultural exchange.
The festival also served as an opportunity for the Incheon City Theatre Company to introduce its original repertoire to a nationwide audience and demonstrate the potential of locally inspired theatrical productions.
