Incheon Bukbu Branch launches emergency inspections of construction sites
Labor authorities have launched emergency inspections at worksites with record-breaking heatwaves continuing and raising the risk of heat-related illnesses among construction workers.
The Incheon Bukbu Branch of the Ministry of Jungbu Regional Employment and Labor says it conducted intensive inspections from August 5th through 7th at construction sites and logistics centers in Seohae-gu and Geomdan-gu, focusing on heatwave response systems and measures to protect workers.
The inspections centered on whether worksites were following the five basic heatwave safety measures designed to prevent heat-related illnesses among workers.
Incheon selected as outstanding national spatial information project
Incheon Metropolitan City’s digital twin-based spatial information platform project has been selected by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport as an outstanding project in an evaluation of national spatial information initiatives.
The evaluation examined the progress, utilization, and improvements in administrative efficiency of spatial information projects carried out by central government agencies and local governments nationwide.
Key achievements included developing a future-city policy decision support system to address urban problems in older parts of the city, transitioning to a locally developed geographic information system (GIS) engine and cloud infrastructure, and developing the 3D spatial information portal iMap.
Incheon launches fourth Children's Participation Committee
Incheon Metropolitan City has launched its fourth Children's Participation Committee to expand children's involvement in policymaking.
The city held a ceremony on August 8th at Incheon City Hall to share the achievements of the third committee and officially launch the fourth.
The Children's Participation Committee is a civic participation body that allows children to directly voice their opinions on local policies and administrative processes.
Committee members will review policies concerning children's lives and rights, education, culture, and welfare, and propose areas in need of improvement.
Incheon steps up efforts to crack down on price gouging at summer vacation spots
Joint inspections have been carried out at Incheon’s Eulwangni and Wangsan beaches to prevent price gouging and other unfair business practices during the summer vacation season.
The Incheon Metropolitan Government says it conducted intensive inspections of restaurants and rental businesses around the beaches to check compliance with price display requirements and whether businesses were charging unauthorized seating fees.
The city also urged local vendors to maintain reasonable prices and promote fair and sound commercial practices.
The measures are expected to help prevent unfair business practices at popular summer destinations and create a safer environment where tourists can enjoy their vacations with peace of mind.
Incheon education office supports AI and software education to bridge digital divide
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is launching a customized program to strengthen the digital skills of students from migrant backgrounds and expand their access to AI education in order to bridge the digital divide.
The education office says it is running an AI and software support program from July 21st through September 23rd for 10 Korean-language classes at eight elementary, middle, and high schools.
The initiative is designed to make AI and software education more accessible to students from migrant backgrounds who may have difficulty communicating in Korean.
High seawater temperatures raise alarm for Incheon's coastal region
Record-breaking heatwaves this summer have sent seawater temperatures soaring, putting local aquaculture businesses at growing risk.
With a high-temperature seawater advisory in effect for waters off Incheon, major aquaculture sites in Ongjin and Ganghwa are stepping up efforts to prevent mass fish and shellfish deaths.
Field monitoring has been strengthened, with operators adjusting feed levels to prevent digestive problems caused by rising water temperatures and being instructed to keep relevant equipment running around the clock.
