Incheon’s Slaughterhouses to Open One Hour Early Ahead of Chuseok
Incheon Metropolitan City will open livestock slaughterhouses one hour earlier ahead of the Chuseok holiday.
From Aug. 24 through Sept. 16, slaughterhouses will open at 7 a.m., one hour earlier than usual, for 12 days, excluding Thursdays and Fridays.
The extended operating hours are intended to spread out the surge in demand for slaughtering before the holiday and ensure a timely supply of livestock products.
The city will also strengthen monitoring to prevent animals suspected of having infectious diseases, including foot-and-mouth disease and African swine fever, from being slaughtered or entering the market.
Incheon to Host 2028 National Convention of Korea Rural Leaders
Incheon has won the bid to host the 81st National Convention of Korea Rural Leaders in 2028.
Through the convention, agricultural leaders from across the country will gather in Incheon to exchange information on the development of agriculture and rural communities and strengthen communication and solidarity among members.
The city expects the event to raise the profile of Incheon's agricultural sector and provide an opportunity to showcase the city's agricultural, tourism and cultural resources to farmers nationwide.
Incheon, the Korean Rural Leaders Central Association, and its Incheon chapter will draw up detailed plans for the event, including venues, accommodations, transportation, safety and publicity.
Incheon Donation Campaign for Children Raises More Than 1 Billion Won
The “Christmas in August” campaign, jointly organized by Incheon Metropolitan City and ChildFund Korea, has raised more than its target, collecting 1.001 billion won in donations.
The city expressed its gratitude to the companies, organizations and residents who participated in the campaign.
Launched in 2022, “Christmas in August” is a public-private fundraising campaign aimed at spreading the culture of giving beyond the year-end holiday season and supporting children in need during the summer.
The campaign has raised a cumulative 3.4 billion won over the past five years.
This year's campaign was held for three months beginning in June under the slogan, “For Children's Dreams, For Incheon's Tomorrow.”
Incheon Education Office Hosts Aerospace Career Exchange Program in Seattle
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education held an international aerospace career exchange program in Seattle from Aug. 9 to 12 for 13 high school juniors and supervising teachers.
The program was designed to broaden students' career perspectives by giving them opportunities to introduce the Korean language and culture while interacting with overseas Koreans, and meet experts in the aerospace industry.
In cooperation with the Korean Education Center in Seattle, the students participated in student-led Korean language and cultural education, science and cultural exchanges using robot coding; visited the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Seattle; and held career mentoring sessions with Korean-American scientists and engineers at Boeing.
Yeonsu-gu to Offer Family Health Programs in Second Half of Year
The Songdo Health Life Support Center in Incheon's Yeonsu-gu will operate family health programs in the second half of the year to support the health of families with young children and local residents.
The programs cover a range of topics, from classes supporting children's growth and development and parents' child-rearing to health management for middle-aged and older adults and wellness programs for residents.
A center official said it would continue to offer a variety of health programs tailored to different stages of life.
Incheon Cheonma Elementary Selected for School Community Complex Project
Incheon Cheonma Elementary School in Seohae-gu has been selected for the Education Ministry's second 2026 School-Community Complex Facility Competition Project, securing about 4.4 billion won in government funding.
School-community complex facilities are a public-private cooperation model in which education offices and local governments work together to build educational, cultural, welfare and parking infrastructure on unused school grounds for students and nearby residents to share.
