Incheon announced the opening of the ‘Era of 10 Million People in Incheon.’ It is a pledge and goal to become a world-class city beyond Korea based on Incheon's competitiveness as a global city. Incheon is starting to move toward becoming one of the world's top 10 cities. We looked back on our journey and the future we dreamed of from the starting point.
인천시는 ‘1,000만 인천 시대’의 개막을 알렸다. 인천이 지닌 글로벌 도시 경쟁력을 바탕으로 대한민국을 넘어 세계 초일류 도시로 나가겠다는 다짐이자 목표다. 세계 10대 도시를 향해 나아가기 시작한 인천. 그 출발점에서 그동안의 여정과 꿈꾸던 미래를 돌아보자.

The eighth popularly elected government of Incheon has operated with only Incheon and the happiness of its people in mind. It visited various sites, observed them, and listened to the voices of people. Incheon's challenge has become a leap forward, embracing new hope.
민선 8기 인천시는 오직 인천, 오로지 시민 행복만을 생각하며 달려왔다. 현장 곳곳을 방문해 꼼꼼히 살피고 시민들의 목소리에 귀를 기울였다. 그리고 인천의 도전은 도약이 되어 새 시대를 맞이하고 있다.
#1. Jemulpo Renaissance Project | 제물포 르네상스 프로젝트
‘Jemulpo Renaissance’ is a project pledged by Incheon to recreate the original downtown of Jung-gu and Dong-gu into a people-centered city that combines culture, tourism, and industry. The goal is to turn the inner harbor area into a water-friendly space for citizens and a marine tourism space and make it a base for future growth industries and young start-ups through the Incheon Free Economic Zone (IFEZ) designation. The Jemulpo Renaissance Master Plan, sourced for this project, will be completed in December, the full outline will be revealed, and the project will accelerate.
⦁ Goal : Realization of a people-centered original city center where culture, tourism, and industry converge

① Increase the original downtown population by 50%
② Improvement of cultural tourism competitiveness index
③ Advancement of old industry structure
④ Lead the era of GRDP 100 trillion

‘제물포 르네상스’는 중·동구 원도심을 문화와 관광, 산업이 융합된 사람 중심의 도시로 재창조하기 위해 인천시가 공약한 프로젝트다. 내항 일대를 시민을 위한 친수 공간이자 해양관광 공간으로 조성하고, 인천경제자유구역(IFEZ) 지정을 통해 미래성장산업과 청년창업의 거점으로 만들겠다는 목표를 담고 있다. 이를 위해 실시한 제물포 르네상스 마스터플랜 용역이 12월에 마무리되며, 본격적인 윤곽을 드러내고 사업 추진이 속도를 낼 예정이다.

#2. Attracting Overseas Koreans Agency | 재외동포청 유치
The Overseas Koreans Agency opened in Incheon in June 2023. For this, Incheon proactively began campaigns to attract the agency even before the establishment of the Overseas Koreans Agency began in earnest and made every effort for about eight months by visiting related organizations such as the government and National Assembly, overseas Koreans, and the local community. Just as Hong Kong and Singapore have grown into global cities through the Chinese merchant network, Incheon is expected to lay the foundation for a global leap forward with overseas Koreans worldwide.

2023년 6월 개청하는 재외동포청이 인천에 들어선다. 이를 위해 인천시는 재외동포청 신설이 본격화되기 전부터 선제적으로 유치 활동에 나섰으며 정부·국회 등 관계 기관과 재외동포, 지역사회를 대상으로 약 8개월간 갖은 노력을 기울였다.
송도국제도시에 자리 잡은 재외동포청은 재외동포 지원을 위한 전담 기구로 재외동포 정책 수립·시행과 재외동포 및 재외동포단체 지원, 서비스정책 이행에 관한 사무를 관장한다. 한국의 재외동포는 2020년 12월 기준 193개국 750만 명으로 중국, 인도 등에 이어 전 세계에서 다섯 번째로 큰 규모다. 인천시는 홍콩, 싱가포르가 세계 화상(華商) 네트워크를 통해 글로벌 도시로 성장한 것처럼 인천도 전 세계에 퍼져 있는 재외동포를 구심점으로 글로벌 도약의 초석을 마련하게 될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
#3. New Hong Kong City Project | 뉴홍콩시티 프로젝트
Incheon announced a plan to become a hub city like Hong Kong, symbolizing East Asia's global cities. The ‘New Hong Kong City Project’ is a plan to create an optimal business environment and foster high-tech industries based on the free economic zones of Songdo, Cheongna, and Yeongjong as well as Ganghwa-gun, Ongjin-gun, and Incheon Port. In particular, Incheon will focus on fostering the bio, semiconductor, mobility, and aviation maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) industries, where Incheon has strengths, as well as the logistics, finance, and tourism industries, which are common industries among global cities. For this, Incheon sourced the New Hong Kong City Master Plan service this year and plans to prepare financial resources, establish sectoral plans, and improve laws and systems.

인천시가 동아시아 글로벌도시의 상징인 홍콩과 같은 허브도시로 도약하겠다는 청사진을 제시했다. ‘뉴홍콩시티 프로젝트’는 경제자유구역인 송도와 청라, 영종을 비롯해 강화군과 옹진군, 인천항 등을 거점으로 최적의 비즈니스 환경을 조성하고 첨단산업을 육성하는 계획이다. 특히 인천이 강점을 지닌 바이오·반도체·모빌리티·항공정비(MRO)산업과 글로벌도시 공통 산업인 물류·금융·관광산업을 집중 육성한다. 이를 위해 올해 뉴홍콩시티 마스터플랜 용역을 추진했으며 재원 조달 방안과 부문별 계획 수립, 법·제도 개선 방안 등을 마련할 계획이다.

#4. National Museum of World Writing Systems Opened | 국립세계문자박물관 개관
The National Museum of World Writing Systems opened in Songdo International City. The white building, designed with a scroll concept, with one floor underground and two floors above ground, catches the eye. The interior comprises a permanent exhibition room, a special exhibition room, a children's experience studio, and a cafeteria. Materials on the theme of ‘letter,’ a common heritage of mankind, have been collected from all over the world, and important materials, such as the “Original Circular Board with Dots (Cuneiform Script of Sumer)” and the “42-line Gutenberg Bible” are on display. As the first national museum built in Incheon, it is emerging as a new cultural landmark.

송도국제도시에 국립세계문자박물관이 문을 열었다. 지하 1층, 지상 2층의 규모로 두루마리 컨셉의 하얀 건축물이 눈길을 사로잡는다. 내부는 상설전시실, 기획전시실, 어린이체험실, 카페테리아 등으로 꾸며졌다. 전 세계를 대상으로 인류 공통의 유산인 ‘문자’를 주제로 한 자료들을 수집하여, 「원형 배 점토판(쐐기문자 점토판)」, 「구텐베르크 42행 성서」 등 중요 자료들이 전시되어 있다. 인천에 건립된 첫 국립박물관으로 새로운 문화적 랜드마크로 떠오르는 중이다.
