다리 건너, 

눈부신 도약으로 걸어가다

Incheon is on the verge of another remarkable leap forward. The 3rd Landing Bridge, a bridge over the sea connecting Yeongjong International City and Cheongna International City, is finally opening. When it opens in January 2026, Songdo, Yeongjong, and Cheongna will be bound as a single airport economic zone, laying the foundation for new regional development. Beyond mere transportation infrastructure, the 3rd Landing Bridge will become an axis of growth, converging global logistics, tourism, and industry.

인천이 다시 한 번 눈부신 도약을 향해 나아가고 있다. 영종국제도시와 청라국제도시를 잇는 바다 위 다리, 제3연륙교가 마침내 개통되기 때문이다. 2026년 1월 다리가 열리면 송도·영종·청라는 하나의 공항경제권으로 묶이며 새로운 지역 발전의 기반이 될 것이다. 단순한 교통 인프라를 넘어 글로벌 물류, 관광·산업이 융합된 성장축이 될 제3연륙교를 소개한다.

THE THIRD BRIDGE TOWARD THE FUTURE

미래로 향하는 세 번째 다리 

The construction of the 3rd Landing Bridge, which started in December 2021, has finally been completed after about four years. It is 4.68km long and has six lanes in each direction. Notably, it is the only bridge linking Yeongjong International City that also includes lanes for pedestrians and bicycles.

2021년 12월 착공된 제3연륙교는 약 4년간의 공사를 마치고 드디어 모습을 드러냈다. 길이 4.68㎞, 왕복 6차로 규모로 건설되었으며, 영종국제도시와 연결된 3개의 교량 중 유일하게 보도와 자전거도로가 포함되어 있다. 

It is also architecturally significant. Unlike existing cable-stayed bridges, which are usually built in inverted Y, H, or diamond shapes, the 3rd Landing Bridge features a unique gatelike design, presenting a striking exterior. This construction approach is rare worldwide, and the use of special steel for bridge building by POSCO further sets it apart. Additionally, advanced technologies such as a smart tolling system, high-performance concrete, and ultrahigh-strength cables were extensively used.

건축적으로도 의미가 높다. 기존 사장교들이 일반적으로 역Y자형, H자형, 다이아몬드형으로 건설되는 것과 달리, 제3연륙교는 문(門) 형태의 독창적인 디장인을 채택해 아름다운 외관을 자랑한다. 세계적으로 보기 드문 건설방식으로 이를 위해 포스코가 생산한 교량용 특수강재를 사용하는 등 차별성을 갖췄다. 이외에도 기술적으로 스마트톨링 시스템, 고성능 콘크리트, 초고강도 케이블 등 첨단기술이 집약적으로 적용됐다.

세계 최고의 전망을 품다

Another reason the 3rd Landing Bridge attracts attention is that it is designed as a tourist attraction rather than just a traffic route. The most notable feature is the main tower observation deck, located 184 meters above sea level, making it the highest observation deck on a sea bridge worldwide. This record was also confirmed by the World Record Committee in the U.S. on October 29. 

제3연륙교가 주목받는 또 다른 이유는 단순한 교통로를 넘어 관광형 교량으로 조성됐다는 점이다. 가장 주목할 부분은 해발 184m 위치의 주탑 전망대로, 이는 전 세계 해상교량 전망대 중 가장 높은 위치에 있다. 지난 10월 29일 미국 세계기록위원회로부터 이 기록에 대한 인증도 받았다. 

Notably, the upper part of the observation deck will feature Korea’s first Edge Walk attraction. Visitors wearing safety gear can walk along the outdoor path with unobstructed views, experiencing the sky, land, and sea all at once. The lower observation deck includes a pedestrian walkway and waterfront space to boost accessibility, with rest areas available for pedestrians and bicycle riders.

특히 전망대 상부에는 국내 최초로 엣지워크(Edge Walk) 시설이 도입된다. 안정장비를 착용한 관광객들이 바닥이 훤히 보이는 외부 길을 직접 걸으며, 하늘·땅·바다를 동시에 체험할 수 있다.  하부 전망대에는 보행데크와 친수공간을 조성해 이용 접근성을 높였으며, 보행자와 자전거 라이더들이 편하게 쉬어갈 수 있도록 쉼터도 제공한다.

SHARING THE BRIDGE WITH CITIZENS FIRST, BEFORE OPENING

개통 전, 시민들과 먼저 공유하다  

Various pre-opening events were organized to celebrate and share the bridge’s completion with residents.

The duathlon on November 30 featured a 5㎞ run, a 40㎞ cycle, and a 10㎞ run, passing through Cheongna downtown and the 3rd Landing Bridge. It was highly praised as a ‘special race unique to Incheon’ because participants could run on foot and cycle on the bridge right after it opened.

완공된 다리를 시민들과 함께 축하하고 나누기 위해 다양한 사전 행사가 마련됐다. 

먼저 11월 30일에 진행한 듀애슬론(철인 2종 경기) 대회는 달리기 5㎞, 사이클 40㎞, 달리기 10㎞로 구성되어 청라 도심과 제3연륙교 구간을 순환하는 코스로 설계되었다. 최초로 개방된 다리를 두 발과 두 바퀴로 달릴 수 있어 ‘인천만의 특별한 레이스’라는 호평을 받았다. 

Following the duathlon, the “WALK & RUN” event was held on December 7. Consisting of a 10㎞ marathon and an 8㎞ walk, the course started at Yeongjong Gueup Baetteo Seaside Park and looped back at Cheongna-dong. Any Incheon resident could participate, and it provided a thrilling, one-time experience while enjoying the cool sea breeze.

이어 12월 7일에는 ‘WALK & RUN’ 행사가 개최됐다. 마라톤 10㎞과 걷기 8㎞로, 영종 구읍뱃터 해안공원에서 출발해 청라동까지 갔다가 다시 돌아오는 코스다. 인천 시민이라면 누구나 참여할 수 있었던 행사로, 시원한 바닷바람을 맞으며 딱 한 번만 누릴 수 있는 설레는 경험을 선사했다.

DREAMING OF CONNECTING TO ANOTHER ISLAND

영종국제도시,

또 다른 섬과 연결을 꿈꾸다

Sindo, Sido, and Modo Islands, reachable by boat from Sammok Wharf in Yeongjong International City, are well-known spots for cycling. Currently, the Sindo Peace Bridge that links these islands is being built.

The Sindo Peace Bridge, the initial part of the ‘West Sea North-South Peace Road,’ links Yeongjong International City with Ganghwado Island. Construction started in September 2021 and is planned to be finished by June 2026. Once completed, it should greatly enhance access to the Bukdo-myeon region in Ongjin County, Incheon.

영종국제도시 삼목선착장에서 배를 타고 들어가는 신·시·모도는 자전거를 여행지로 인기가 높다. 최근에는 이 섬들을 연결하는 신도 평화대교가 건설 중이다.

신도 평화대교는 영종국제도시와 강화도를 잇는 ‘서해남북평화도로’의 첫 번째 구간으로 2021년 9월 착공해 2026년 6월 개통 예정이다. 이 다리가 완공되면 인천 옹진군 북도면 일대의 접근성이 크게 개선될 것으로 기대된다.

A bridge at the tip of the island offers easy access to areas that were once only reachable by boat. We introduce Incheon’s islands and the bridges that make them more familiar and accessible. 

섬 끝자락에 놓인 다리는 배를 타고 들어가야 했던 곳을 쉽게 오갈 수 있도록 만들어준다. 더 친근하고 가까워진 인천 섬들과 그 다리를 소개한다.

It’s called the ‘museum without a roof’ because it offers a chance to look at various historical sites, from prehistoric dolmens to remains from the Goryeo and Joseon dynasties. 

선사시대 고인돌부터 고려시대를 거쳐 조선시대에 이르기까지 다양한 역사 유적지를 둘러볼 수 있어 ‘지붕 없는 박물관’이라고 불린다.

Gyodongdo Island, located near North Korea, was where people fleeing from Yeonbaek, Hwanghae-do during the Korean War settled. Their traces can be seen at Daeryong Market.

북한과 인접한 교동도는 6·25전쟁 당시 황해도 연백에서 피난 온 실향민들이 정착한 곳으로, 대룡시장에서 그 흔적을 느낄 수 있다.

Home to Bomunsa Temple, one of Korea’s three main sacred sites dedicated to Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the island is renowned for the Seated Avalokitesvara Statue carved into Nunsseop Bawi Rock. It offers breathtaking sunsets and sweeping views of the island.

우리나라 3대 관음성지 보문사가 자리한 섬으로 눈썹바위에 새겨진 마애관음좌상이 유명하며, 이곳에서 섬의 전경과 함께 바라보는 일몰이 일품이다.

Yeongjongdo was a modest fishing village until development started in 1992, when it merged with Sammokdo, Sinbuldo, and Yongyudo islands to become a single island. With the addition of an airport and various resorts and hotels, it is transforming into an international city.

소박한 어촌 마을이었던 영종도. 1992년 첫 삽을 뜨면서 삼목도와 신불도, 용유도까지 합쳐지며 하나의 섬이 되었다. 그 위로 공항과 함께 각종 리조트와 호텔 등이 유치되면서 국제도시로 거듭나고 있다.

This island boasts stunning natural scenery, earning it the nickname ‘Alps of the West Sea.’ It includes Hanagae Beach and a marine tourism trail next to the beach, allowing visitors to walk over the sea.

서해의 알프스라는 별명이 붙여질 만큼 자연 풍경이 아름다운 섬이다. 하나개 해수욕장이 있으며, 그 옆으로는 바다 위를 걸을 수 있는 해상관광탐방로가 조성되어 있다.

This small island, with a circumference of 2.5㎞ offers the Muui Bada Nurigil, a trekking trail that lets visitors experience the island’s scenery to the fullest.

해안 둘레길이 총 2.5㎞인 작은 섬으로, 섬 풍경을 만끽할 수 있는 트레킹 ‘무의바다누리길’이 조성되어 있다.

자전거나 전동 스쿠터를 타고 세 개의 섬을 모두 둘러볼 수 있어 인천의 ‘삼 형제 섬’으로 불린다. 각기 다른 매력이 있어 구석구석 둘러보는 재미가 쏠쏠하다.

This small yet stunning island is lined with cafés that offer views of the island itself. Notably, Mokseom Island, a tiny uninhabited island off the southern coast, is renowned for a trail that becomes accessible at low tide.

작지만 아름다운 섬으로, 이 풍경을 즐길 수 있는 카페가 늘어서 있다. 특히 남쪽 해안에 딸린 작은 무인도 ‘목섬’은 물이 빠지면 걸어서 들어갈 수 있는 길이 열리는 것으로 유명하다.

The well-kept coastal road makes it easy to explore the island. To the north are beaches like Simnipo and Janggyeongni, while to the west is Korea South-East Power’s Yeongheung Thermal Power Plant. 

해안도로가 잘 조성되어 있어 섬을 한 바퀴 둘러보기 좋다. 북쪽에는 십리포·장경리 등 해수욕장이 갖춰져 있고, 서쪽에는 한국남동발전 영흥화력본부가 들어서 있다
