BUILDING THE BACKBONE OF TRANSPORTATION INNOVATION THROUGH RAIL CONNECTIONS
철도 연결로 교통 혁신의 뼈대를 세우다
Incheon is currently at the forefront of transportation innovation in the metropolitan area with the construction of the GTX-B Line. Once it opens, it will offer fast connections from Songdo in Incheon through Seoul Station to Maseok in Namyangju, with additional stations already confirmed to improve accessibility and convenience. This development is expected to be a major turning point, establishing Incheon not as the outskirts of Seoul but as a central city for living within the metropolitan area (scheduled to open in 2031).
인천은 현재 GTX-B 노선 추진을 통해 수도권 교통 혁신의 중심에 서 있다. GTX-B가 개통되면 인천 송도에서 서울역을 거쳐 남양주 마석까지 빠르게 연결되며, 추가 정거장 신설도 확정돼 접근성과 실효성을 모두 갖추게 된다. 이는 인천이 서울 외곽이 아닌 수도권 핵심 생활도시로 자리매김하는 결정적인 전환점이 될 전망이다(2031년 개통 예정).
Additionally, the Incheon KTX Direct Connection Project, set to open by the end of 2026, is in progress. High-speed trains departing from Songdo will reach major cities across the country, cutting travel time to around two hours and 30 minutes to Busan and roughly two hours and 10 minutes to Mokpo. Meanwhile, the second phase of the Incheon Urban Railway Network Plan, including the Incheon Circular Line 3, is being carried out step by step under a new blueprint.
여기에 더해 2026년 말 개통을 목표로 인천발 KTX 직결 사업도 추진 중이다. 인천 송도에서 출발한 고속철도가 전국 주요 도시로 뻗어 나가며 부산까지 약 2시간 30분, 목포까지 약 2시간 10분이면 이동이 가능해진다. 이와 함께 인천순환3호선을 포함한 제2차 인천 도시철도망 구축계획도 새로운 청사진 아래 단계적으로 추진되고 있다.

A new route has opened across Incheon’s coastal waters. Officially launched on January 5, 2026, the Cheongna Haneul Bridge is a marine bridge that connects Incheon International Airport to the western part of the Seoul metropolitan area in the shortest possible distance. More than just building a bridge, it signifies a closer connection between the airport economic zone and inland regions. By relieving traffic congestion in the western area, it is expected to link Yeongjong International City and Cheongna International City’s infrastructure more smoothly, further boos t ing I ncheon’s overal l urban competitiveness.
인천 앞바다 위에 새로운 길이 열렸다. 2026년 1월 5일 정식 개통한 청라하늘대교는 인천공항과 수도권 서부를 최단 거리로 연결하는 해상교량이다. 이는 단순히 다리 하나가 추가된 것이 아니라 공항 경제권과 내륙이 한층 더 밀접하게 연결되었음을 의미한다. 서부권 교통 병목이 해소되면서 영종국제도시와 청라국제도시의 인프라가 유기적으로 연계되고, 인천의 도시 경쟁력 역시 한 단계 높아질 것으로 기대된다.
RESHAPING THE URBAN STRUCTURE THROUGH ROAD IMPROVEMENTS
도로 개선으로 도시 구조를 새롭게 하다
The Gyeongin Expressway Underground Project is a large-scale initiative that moves an urban expressway underground, freeing up surface space for citizens. Besides easing chronic congestion, the project will develop new roads and parks on the surface, fostering urban renewal and better living conditions.
Projects that will greatly enhance transportation in island areas are also gaining momentum. Once the Yeongjong–Sindo Peace Road and the access road connecting the Jangbongdo Bridge are completed, island communities will have year-round accessibility and will no longer depend on ferry services.
By easing chronic congestion and reconnecting isolated areas, these road improvements are transforming not only how people travel around Incheon but also the city’s layout and the daily lives of its residents.
경인고속도로 지하화 사업은 도심을 가로지르는 고속도로를 지하로 이전하고, 지상 공간을 시민에게 돌려주는 대형 프로젝트다. 상습 정체 구간을 해소하는 것은 물론, 지상에는 일반도로와 공원이 조성돼 도시재생과 생활환경 개선이 함께 이뤄질 전망이다.
섬 지역의 교통 환경을 획기적으로 바꿀 사업도 속도를 내고 있다. 영종~신도 평화도로, 장봉도 연도교 접속도로 등이 완공되면, 배편에 의존하던 이동 구조에서 벗어나 섬 지역 역시 상시 이동이 가능한 생활권으로 전환된다.
상습 정체를 해소하고 단절된 공간을 다시 잇는 도로 개선은 인천의 이동 방식을 넘어 도시의 구조와 시민의 일상을 새롭게 바꾸고 있다.
