A space with forest and culture,

Madelim

Last January, a new hot place emerged in Jung gu, Incheon. Madelim is a cafe renovated from Wangsan Church, which is 120 years old. From the interior to the menu, everything was thought out carefully. It is located on Yongyudo Island and is close to tourist attractions such as Eulwangri and Wangsan Beaches. It is also close to Incheon International Airport that it is great to stop by before or after entering or leaving the country.

The cafe's name, 'Madelim,' coined by combining 'Made' and 'Lim (Forest),' means 'meeting a forest in Incheon.' The first basement to the fourth floor is decorated with a nature theme, such as earth, light, water, sky, and a garden. A single space embraces various moods, from a green forest to a dark cave. Visitors continue to come to the cafe as they can enjoy everything in one space, from coffee and bakery to dining, exhibitions, and jazz performances.

지난 1월, 인천 중구에 새로운 핫플레이스가 탄생했다. 메이드림은 120년의 역사를 지닌 왕산교회를 1년간 개조해 만든 카페로, 인테리어부터 판매 메뉴까지 세심한 고민이 담겨있다. 용유도에 위치해 을왕리·왕산 해수욕장 등 관광지와 맞닿아 있으며, 인천국제공항과도 가까워 입·출국 전후에 들르기 좋다.

카페의 이름의 유래는 ‘MADE 林’, 인천에서 숲을 만난다는 의미에서 시작됐다. 지하 1층부터 4층까지 땅과 빛, 물, 하늘, 정원 등 자연 컨셉으로 꾸며져 있다. 푸른 숲부터 어두운 동굴까지 하나의 공간이 다양한 분위기를 품는다. 커피와 베이커리는 물론, 다이닝, 전시, 재즈 공연까지 한 공간에서 모든 걸 즐길 수 있어 많은 방문 행렬이 이어지고 있다.

A vibe of an old house in downtown,

ODAM

A unique cafe downtown was born after a quiet 350 year old hanok (Korean house) was renovated. 'ODAM,' renovated from an old house built in 1715, keeps the warm traces of people that lived there, such as the signboard and records of historical materials, as many as its history. A plaque with 'Gwanhaegak Pavilion' written on it, the old name of the building, indicates that its history began in the Joseon Dynasty period.

It presents a quiet and cozy atmosphere, suggesting the years that it has passed by. The menu is also diverse. Besides coffee, you can enjoy fragrant flower teas, such as prickly pear, cherry blossom, and rose. In particular, there are seats on the wooden floor, which is part of Korea's long standing sedentary culture. Odam is now writing a new page in history as a cultural heritage and a cultural resting place for modern people.

350년 역사를 지닌 고즈넉한 한옥을 새로이 정돈하니 도심 속 이색 카페가 완성됐다. 1715년 지어진 고택을 개조한 ‘오담(ODAM)’은 오랜 세월만큼이나 현판, 사료 기록 등 사람들이 지내온 따스한 흔적이 남아있다. 과거 한옥의 이름이었던 ‘관해각’이 적힌 명판이 이곳이 시작된 조선시대의 시간을 증명한다. 

켜켜이 쌓인 세월만큼 조용하고 아늑한 분위기가 물씬 난다. 메뉴도 다채로워 커피 외에도 백년초, 벚꽃, 장미 등 향긋한 꽃차를 차분히 맛볼 수 있다. 특히 마룻바닥에 앉는 좌석이 존재하는데, 이는 한국의 오랜 좌식 문화의 일부이다. 오담은 이제 문화적 유산이자 현대인들의 문화 휴식공간으로 새로운 역사를 써 내려가고 있다.
