Sudoguksan, located in Songhyeon-dong and Songnim-dong within Donggu, Incheon, was once an informal hillside settlement established by refugees and laborers. Despite its poverty, the neighborhood was known for its warmth and strong community spirit, earning it the nickname “moon village.” At its height, approximately 3,000 households lived there, but it was demolished in the late 1990s as part of redevelopment.

인천 동구 송현동과 송림동에 걸쳐 있는 수도국산. 그 주변으로 피난민과 노동자가 모여들며 무허가 판자촌이 형성됐다. 가난했지만 따뜻한 정이 있던 동네는 달과 가깝게 위치해 ‘달동네’라 불렸다. 한때 3,000여 가구가 살았으나 1990년대 후반 재개발 사업이 추진되면서 그 모습이 사라졌다.

To preserve these memories, the Sudoguksan Museum of Housing & Living was founded in 2005. It has since become a well-loved destination, and in 2023, plans were made to expand it as a prominent local attraction. After recent renovations, the museum was reopened and visited by Citta Nirmala Mahardhika (known in Korean as Park Soyeon).

이 달동네의 기억을 되살리기 위해 2005년 수도국산달동네박물관이 조성됐다. 이후 많은 관람객이 찾았고, 2023년 지역 대표 명소로 성장시키기 위해 증축을 결정됐다. 올해 재정비를 마치고 다시 문을 연 이곳을 Citta Nirmala Mahardhika(한국 이름, 박소연) 씨가 찾았다.

An Immersive Space Recreating Life in the Past

그 시절을 그대로 재현한 체험 공간

As she enters the Sudoguksan Museum of Housing & Living, Park Soyeon’s face illuminates with excitement. She proceeds along the exhibition path to the basement, meticulously examining the artifacts and reading each display panel. In Permanent Exhibition Hall II, vivid scenes depict Incheon’s historic Moon Village.

수도국산달동네박물관에 들어서자 박소연 씨의 눈이 반짝인다. 관람 순서대에 따라 지하로 내려간 그녀는 전시된 유물들을 꼼꼼히 둘러보고 안내판에 적힌 글자를 하나하나 읽으며 내용을 이해해 나간다. 이어 도착한 상설전시실Ⅱ에는 그 시절 인천 달동네의 풍경이 생생하게 펼쳐져 있다.

“I was amazed. It felt like traveling back in time, seeing and even touching things I had only seen in historical Korean dramas. Wearing a vintage school uniform and taking photos in the recreated space made it even more memorable.”

“놀랐습니다. 그동안 한국의 옛 시대를 배경으로 한 드라마에서만 볼 수 있었던 것들을 직접 보고 만질 수 있어서 마치 타임머신을 타고 과거로 간 것 같았어요. 특히 옛날 교복을 입고 재현 공간에서 사진을 찍는 경험까지 할 수 있어 특별한 추억이었습니다.”

Indonesia is home to museums that safeguard historical artifacts and aspects of daily life, such as the National Museum of Indonesia and Museum Indonesia. Although these institutions showcase a rich array of cultural heritage, most exhibits are kept behind glass cases to ensure their preservation.

인도네시아에도 각종 유물과 과거의 생활사를 보존한 박물관들이 있다. 대표적으로 선사시대부터 현대에 이르기까지의 역사·문화 유물이 전시된 인도네시아 국립박물관(Museum Nasional Indonesia)과 전통 의상, 공예품, 생활용품 등을 한눈에 살펴볼 수 있는 인도네시아 박물관(Museum Indonesia) 등이 있다. 다양한 민족과 문화가 공존하는 만큼 인도네시아 박물관은 지역별 문화적 다양성을 중심으로 전시가 이루어진다. 다만 유물을 보존하기 위해 유리 진열장 안에 전시하는 경우가 대부분이다.

“That’s what made the Sudoguksan Museum of Housing & Living truly unique. It offers more than just viewing; it provides an immersive experience of the past. Listening to older visitors say, ‘This reminds me of the old days’ or ‘This looks just like my childhood room,’ made me realize how vividly this environment has been recreated.”

“그래서 인천의 수도국산달동네박물관이 더 특별하게 느껴졌습니다. 단순히 보는 것을 넘어 실제로 그 시대 체험할 수 있으니까요. 관람하는 동안 어르신 관람객들이 ‘옛날 생각이 난다.’, ‘이건 예전에 내 방과 똑같다.’, ‘나도 이런 곳에서 살았다.’라고 말씀하시는 모습을 보며, 이 공간이 얼마나 현실감 있게 만들어졌는지 실감할 수 있었어요.“

Continuing as a Global Ambassador for Incheon

계속되는 인천의 글로벌 홍보단 활동

Incheon seamlessly blends its natural elements—sea, mountains, and forests—with a modern, forward-looking urban landscape. Its attractions range from historically rich, retrocharming areas to stunning views that shine by day and night. Park Soyeon believes Incheon offers a more diverse appeal than any other city in Korea, which is why she continues to serve as a Global Promotional Ambassador this year.

인천은 바다와 산, 숲이 어우러진 자연을 품고 있으면서도 현대적이고 미래지향적인 도시의 모습을 함께 지니고 있다. 역사와 레트로 감성이 깃든 공간이 있는가 하면, 낮과 밤 모두 아름다운 경관을 보여주는 점도 인상적이다. 박소연 씨는 인천이 한국의 어느 도시보다 다양한 매력을 갖추고 있다고 말한다. 그녀가 지난해에 이어 올해도 글로벌 홍보단으로 활동하는 이유 역시 이러한 인천의 모습을 더 많은 사람에게 알리고 싶기 때문이다.

“I have thoroughly enjoyed exploring Incheon and sharing my experiences on social media throughout the past year. It was particularly meaningful to introduce the city to audiences in Indonesia. With many more places I still want to visit, I decided to participate again.”

Having recently announced her pregnancy, Park mentioned that this experience feels even more meaningful. She wishes to explore Incheon to become a treasured memory for her and her future child.

“지난 한 해 동안 인천 곳곳을 직접 탐방하고 SNS로 소개할 수 있어 즐거웠습니다. 특히 인도네시아에 인천의 매력을 알릴 수 있었던 점이 매우 뜻깊었습니다. 아직 방문하지 못한 인천 명소들이 많이 남아 있다고 느껴, 다시 글로벌 홍보단으로 참여하게 됐습니다.” 최근 임신 소식을 전한 박소연씨는 이번 활동이 더욱 특별하게 느껴진다고 말했다. 곧 태어날 아이와 함께 인천 곳곳을 둘러본 경험이 소중한 추억으로 기억되길 바란다며 미소를 지었다.
