When the summer heat intensifies, both body and mind can quickly feel drained. 

If traveling far out of the city feels too daunting, a “park-cation”—a relaxing vacation spent entirely within the city’s green spaces—offers the perfect alternative. 

Here are two standout parks in Incheon where visitors can immerse themselves in refreshing summer scenery alongside unique, local experiences.

부쩍 더워지는 날씨에 몸도 마음도 쉽게 지쳐가는 요즘, 틈틈이 휴식하며 몸과 마음을 회복할 시간이 필요하다.

 먼 곳으로 떠나는 여행이 부담된다면 ‘파캉스(공원에서 즐기는 바캉스)’가 제격이다. 

청량한 여름이 스며든 인천의 공원 중에서도 이색 체험이 곁들어진 공원 두 곳을 소개한다.

Already beloved for its dazzling nighttime lighting displays and vibrant media facades, Subong Park is now capturing attention as a premier daytime destination. This past spring, the park unveiled its newest landmark: the Subong Park Skywalk. Interestingly, the project was originally envisioned as a traditional observatory tower; however, in response to community feedback, it was thoughtfully redesigned into an elevated “treetop trail” to preserve the surrounding natural landscape. Built along the park’s steep ridgeline, the walkway gives visitors the thrilling sensation of soaring high above the city skyline.

형형색색 조명과 화려한 미디어파사드로 밤이면 더욱 빛나는 수봉공원. 최근 새로운 낮 풍경으로 다시 주목받고 있다. 지난 3월 공원의 새로운 랜드마크인 스카이워크가 조성됐기 때문이다. 당초 스카이워크는 타워형 전망대로 계획됐으나, 자연경관 훼손을 최소화해 달라는 시민들의 의견을 적극 반영해 나무 위를 걷는 듯한 ‘트리탑 트레일’ 방식으로 설계됐다. 여기에 수봉공원의 가파른 지형이 더해져 마치 공중을 걷는 듯한 짜릿하고 이색적인 경험을 선사한다.

폭 1.8m, 길이 310m의 스카이워크는 능선을 따라 이어진다. 하이라이트는 지상 최대 20m 높이까지 올라가는 구간으로, 인천 도심 전경과 서해가 파노라마처럼 펼쳐진다. 기존 공원 동선과도 자연스럽게 연결되며 어린이놀이터, 물놀이장, 궁도장 등 다양한 부대시설도 함께 이용할 수 있다.

The skywalk is 310 meters long and 1.8 meters wide, tracing the natural contour of the hill. At its highest peak—hovering 20 meters above the ground— it rewards walkers with sweeping, panoramic views of downtown Incheon and the West Sea. For an easy day out, the walkway seamlessly connects to the park’s existing network of trails and recreational facilities, including a children’s playground, a summer water play zone, and an archery range.

The journey to the skywalk is an experience in itself, wrapped in the lush, vibrant canopy of midsummer. Dense trees line both sides of the path, casting a welcome canopy of cool shade over walkers. Thanks to a thoughtfully designed, barrier-free forest trail, the park is fully accessible, allowing wheelchair users and families with strollers to navigate the terrain with ease. Along the route, charming sculptures of squirrels, deer, and rabbits peek out from the foliage, adding a playful touch of magic to a refreshing summer stroll.

수봉공원 스카이워크에 도달하기까지는 청량한 여름 정취를 만끽할 수 있다. 잎이 무성한 큰 나무들이 길 양옆으로 늘어서 있어 시원한 그늘을 만들어준다. 상쾌한 공기를 느끼며 조금 더 편안하게 이동하고 싶다면 무장애 나눔길을 추천한다. 숲 사이를 목재 데크로 연결해 휠체어와 유모차 이용객도 부담 없이 산림욕을 즐길 수 있다. 길 곳곳에는 다람쥐와 사슴, 토끼 등 귀여운 동물 조형물도 설치돼 있어 소소한 즐거움을 더한다.

Where Railway History Comes to Life

옛 역사를 고스란히 재현한 

Old Songdo Station Cultural Park

(구)송도역 문화공원 

The 762 mm narrow-gauge trains, which ran on tracks much narrower than standard railways, once traveled throughout Incheon along the historic Suin Line. Their long era of service came to a close when the line officially closed in December 1995. Songdo Station, which had long served these iconic trains, had already ceased operations in 1992 following reductions to the railway route. After decades of standing abandoned, the former station site was beautifully reborn last October as the Old Songdo Station Cultural Park.

표준궤보다 선로 폭이 좁은 762㎜ 협궤열차는 수인선이 개통되면서 인천 곳곳을 달려왔다. 1995년 12월 수인선이 폐선되면서 협궤열차의 역사도 막을 내렸다. 이 열차가 오가던 송도역은 이보다 앞선 1992년, 수인선의 구간 축소로 먼저 문을 닫았다. 수십 년간 방치됐던 옛 송도역사가 지난해 10월, (구)송도역 문화공원으로 새롭게 단장됐다.

At the park’s entrance stands a 15-meter-tall media tower showcasing vivid, 3D anamorphic illusions. Beside it sits a remarkable piece of engineering: Korea’s first and one of only three steam clock towers in the world. Every hour, white steam billows from the tower alongside the nostalgic chime of a train whistle, instantly recreating the atmosphere of a bygone railway era.

공원 입구에 들어서면 가장 먼저 높이 15m 규모의 대형 미디어타워가 설치되어 있다. 화면 밖으로 튀어나오는 듯 생생한 3D 아나모픽 영상이 방문객들의 시선을 사로잡는다. 타워 옆에는 국내 최초이자 세계 세 번째로 제작된 증기시계탑이 위용을 자랑한다. 정시가 되면 시계탑 내부의 스팀보일러에서 하얀 증기가 뿜어져 나오고 힘찬 기적 소리가 울려 퍼져, 마치 과거 철도역으로 시간 여행을 떠나온 듯한 묘한 향수를 자극한다.

At the heart of the park, an exhibition hall carefully recreates the Songdo Station waiting room as it looked in the 1970s. Visitors can explore vintage ticket booths, worn wooden benches, old train schedules, and retro posters. These historical elements sit alongside interactive modern attractions, including immersive digital displays, an AI station master, and narrow-gauge train driving simulators.

공원 중심에 조성된 전시관은 1970년대 송도역 대합실 풍경을 완벽하게 재현했다. 매표소와 나무 의자, 당시 기차 시간표와 각종 포스터 등으로 꾸며졌으며, 디지털 실감영상관, AI 송도역장, 협궤디젤동차 운전대 등 다양한 체험 공간이 마련되어 있다.

Outside, the history continues with preserved narrow-gauge trains and railway infrastructure. Highlights include the Hyogi 11-13 steam locomotive, which releases actual steam, and a beautifully restored passenger car that mirrors the exact interior style of the past. The park also proudly showcases Korea’s only remaining narrow-gauge turntable and a historic steel water tower.

야외에서도 협궤열차의 역사를 가까이에서 만날 수 있다. 그중 가장 눈길을 끄는 것은 햇살 아래 반짝이는 검은색 열차다. 옛 모습을 그대로 재현한 협궤증기관차 혀기11-13호로, 제자리에서 바퀴가 움직이고 실제 증기까지 뿜어낸다. 그 옆에는 세월의 흔적이 깃든 협궤객차 1량도 전시되어 있다. 내부에는 송도역을 이용했던 승객들의 모습을 담은 사진들이 가득하다. 또한 국내 유일하게 남아 있는 협궤전차대와 철제 급수탑 등도 살펴볼 수 있다.
