The philosophy of one individual can transform an organization, which then influences generations and eras.
Chairman Park Jong-beom is a person who values ‘trust’ over achievements or titles.
To him, trust is the foundation of relationships, the strength that upholds a community, and the most valuable asset for the future.
He started his business in Vienna, Austria, with just KRW 100 million, and over 25 years, he built a global auto parts company with production facilities in 16 countries.
Simultaneously, he demonstrates leadership at the heart of an international network that unites Korean businesspeople worldwide, connecting 154 branches across 75 countries.
한 사람의 철학이 하나의 조직을 바꾸고, 그 조직은 다시 세대와 시대를 이끌어간다.
박종범 회장은 성과나 직함보다 먼저 ‘신뢰’를 이야기하는 사람이다.
그에게 신뢰란 관계의 출발점이자, 공동체를 지탱하는 힘이며 미래로 향하는 가장 단단한 자산이다.
그는 오스트리아 비엔나에서 단돈 1억 원으로 창업을 시작해, 25년 만에 16개국 생산 거점을 둔 글로벌 자동차 부품 기업을 일궜다.
동시에 세계 75개국 154개 지회를 연결하며 전 세계 한 민족 경제인을 하나로 아우르는 국제 네트워크의 중심에서 리더십을 발휘하고 있다.
<Incheon Now> had an in-depth interview with Chairman Park about the current state and future prospects of the World Korean Economic and Trade Association (World-OKTA) and Incheon’s global potential.
<Incheon Now>는 박 회장을 만나 세계한인경제무역협회(World-OKTA)의 현재와 미래, 그리고 인천이라는 도시가 가진 세계적 가능성에 대해 깊이 있는 이야기를 나눴다.
Renewed Responsibility, Re-established Vision
다시 시작된 책임, 다시 다져진 비전
At the end of October 2025, Chairman Park Jong-beom was reappointed as the 23rd Chairman of World-OKTA. He saw this as a chance to reflect on the organization’s future, not as a ‘personal honor.’
“I see my reappointment as another chance to serve. World-OKTA is more than just an economic network; it is a ‘global Korean economic community’ that promotes the overseas growth of Korean SMEs and fosters the collaboration of Korean businesspeople around the world.”
He proposed three keywords: ‘dignity,’ ‘self-esteem,’ and ‘100-year plan.’ He envisions a sustainable future for the organization by enhancing its internal structure through improved communication and trust, while also nurturing each member’s self-esteem.
2025년 10월 말, 박종범 회장은 월드옥타 제23대 회장으로 연임됐다. 그는 이를 ‘개인의 영예’가 아닌 ‘조직의 방향성을 되새기는 계기’로 받아들였다.
“이번 연임은 제게 다시 한 번 봉사의 기회를 주신 것입니다. 월드옥타는 단순한 경제 네트워크가 아니라 대한민국 중소기업의 해외 진출을 돕고, 전 세계 한인 경제인의 시너지를 모으는 ‘글로벌 한민족 경제공동체’입니다.
그가 제시한 세 가지 키워드는 ‘품격’, ‘자존감’, ‘100년 대계’다. 그는 소통과 신뢰를 통해 조직의 내실을 강화하고, 회원 개개인의 자존감을 높이며 협회의 지속가능한 미래를 그리고 있다.
Lesson from Austria, ‘People Come First’
오스트리아에서 배운 것, ‘사람이 먼저다’
Chairman Park’s management philosophy centers on the belief that ‘people’ are the core of business. He was sent to Vienna in 1996 as a Kia Motors resident employee, but the next year’s financial crisis led him to stay in the country. In 1999, with 100 million won in capital, ‘Youngsan Handels’ was established, initially exporting candy packaging materials. It later expanded into automotive parts, batteries, chemicals, plants, and eco-friendly businesses, evolving into the current Youngsan Group.
박 회장의 경영 철학은 사업의 본질이 ‘사람’이라는 데 있다. 1996년 기아차 상사 주재원으로 비엔나에 파견되었던 그는 IMF 외환위기를 계기로 현지에 남기로 결심했다. 1999년 자본금 1억 원으로 설립한 ‘영산 한델스’는 초기에는 사탕 포장재 수출로 시작했지만 이후 자동차 부품, 배터리, 케미컬, 플랜트, 친환경 분야까지 사업을 다각화하며 오늘날의 영산그룹으로 성장했다.
The journey was never easy, facing cultural bias, distrust of Asians, and financial struggles. Nonetheless, he consistently overcame these challenges by showing consideration for others and prioritizing trust. An early anecdote, where he accepted full responsibility for a $1.65 million loss, earned him the reputation of ‘Park Jong-beom, a trustworthy partner.’ He continues to uphold this belief, knowing that ‘true relationships and trust are the essence of business.’
그 과정은 결코 순탄하지 않았다. 문화적 편견, 동양인에 대한 불신, 자금난. 하지만 그는 늘 상대방을 배려하고 먼저 신뢰를 쌓는 방식으로 돌파해왔다. 창업 초기, 165만 달러 손실을 감수하면서도 모든 책임을 끝까지 졌던 일화는 ‘박종범은 믿을 수 있는 파트너’라는 평판으로 이어졌다. 그는 지금도 그 철학을 잊지 않는다. “진정성 있는 관계와 신뢰, 그것이 사업의 본질입니다.”
Incheon, a Window to the World
인천이라는 도시, 세계로 향한 창
In October 2025, the 29th World Korean Economic Conference took place in Incheon. The event included 3,997 export consultations, generated $302 million in consultations, saw the signing of 84 MOUs, and resulted in tangible contracts worth $1 million. While these numbers are notable, Chairman Park highlights a deeper significance. “This wasn’t just an event; it was a platform for regional and global connections. Incheon’s SMEs had direct negotiations with international buyers and secured contracts on the spot.”
2025년 10월, 인천에서 열린 제29차 세계한인경제인대회. 3,997건의 수출 상담, 3억 2백만 달러 규모의 상담액, 84건의 MOU 체결, 100만 달러의 실계약까지. 눈에 띄는 수치들이지만, 박 회장은 그보다 더 중요한 가치를 강조한다. “이번 대회는 단순한 행사가 아니라, 지역과 세계가 직접 만난 자리였습니다. 인천의 중소기업들이 글로벌 바이어들과 직접 상담하고, 현장에서 계약까지 이어지는 장면들이 실제로 펼쳐졌죠.”
He characterized Incheon as ‘the front line of the Korean economy,’ highlighting that with World-OKTA’s global network and its strong infrastructure— such as an international airport, ports, and free economic zones—Incheon has the potential to become a hub for global expansion. He noted that this event provided Korean businesspeople worldwide with an opportunity to experience Incheon’s vibrant economy and potential. Additionally, interactions with local SMEs helped lay the groundwork for practical cooperation.
Incheon will become an important global hub, attracting visits from World-OKTA members and Korean businesspeople worldwide.”
그는 인천을 ‘대한민국 경제의 프런트 라인’이라고 표현했다. 국제공항과 항만, 경제자유구역 등 우수한 인프라에 월드옥타의 글로벌 네트워크가 더해진다면, 인천은 명실상부한 세계 진출의 실질적 플랫폼이 될 수 있다고 강조했다. 또한 이번 행사를 통해 세계 각지에서 모인 한인 경제인들이 인천이라는 도시의 역동성과 가능성을 체감했으며, 지역 중소기업과의 교류를 통해 실질적인 협력 기반을 확인할 수 있었다고 덧붙였다.
“앞으로 인천은 월드옥타와 전 세계 한인 경제인이 더 자주 찾게 될, 매우 중요한 글로벌 거점이 될 것입니다.”
Connections and Designs for the Next Generation
다음 세대를 위한 연결과 설계
One of World-OKTA’s key initiatives is the ‘Global Marketer Support Program.’ This scheme allows local Korean entrepreneurs to serve as branch offices for SMEs in Korea that face difficulties establishing overseas branches. It has already produced significant results, boosting World-OKTA’s reputation as a ‘trust-based, performance-driven organization.’
월드옥타의 핵심 사업 중 하나는 ‘글로벌 마케터 지원사업’이다. 해외에 지사를 두기 어려운 국내 중소기업을 위해 현지 한인 경제인이 지사 역할을 대신 수행하는 구조다. 이 사업은 이미 수많은 실질적 성과를 창출하며 월드옥타가 ‘신뢰기반 실적형 조직’으로 평가받는 이유기도 하다.
The ‘Next Generation Start-up Trade School,’ which has graduated over 30,000 students, supports future entrepreneurs through practical training and global networking opportunities. In addition, export advisory services and start-up competitions organized through the ‘KOREA BUSINESS EXPO’ are helping to expand the international reach of Korean companies. The World-OKTA Leaders Convention and the KOREA BUSINESS EXPO are scheduled for 2026 in Gangseo, Seoul. Efforts are also being made to boost private economic diplomacy activities in conjunction with the APEC summit in Shenzhen, China.
Chairman Park emphasizes that “trust is the most valuable asset of World-OKTA. Upholding promises fosters trust, which in turn generates new opportunities.”
한 3만 명 이상이 수료한 ‘차세대 창업 무역스쿨’은 실무 중심의 교육과 글로벌 네트워킹을 통해 차세대 경제인을 육성하고 있다. 여기에 ‘KOREA BUSINESS EXPO’를 통한 수출상담회와 스타트업 경진대회는 국내 기업의 해외 진출 통로를 넓히고 있다. 2026년에는 서울 강서에서 세계대표자대회와 KOREA BUSINESS EXPO가 예정되어 있으며, 중국 심천에서 열리는 APEC과 연계한 민간 경제외교 채널 활동도 함께 추진 중이다.
박 회장은 단언한다. “월드옥타의 가장 큰 자산은 신뢰입니다. 약속을 지켜야 신뢰가 생기고, 신뢰는 또 다른 기회를 만듭니다.”
At the conclusion of the interview, Chairman Park extended a heartfelt greeting to the citizens of Incheon.
“The success of this event is due to the open-mindedness and active collaboration of Incheon citizens. Incheon is now set to become a central hub for World-OKTA.”
인터뷰 말미, 박 회장은 인천 시민들에게 진심 어린 인사를 전했다.
“이번 대회의 성공은 인천 시민들의 열린 마음과 적극적인 협조 덕분입니다. 인천은 이제 월드옥타의 중요한 거점 도시가 될 것입니다.”
