Incheon Metropolitan City is concentrating its efforts on revitalizing the industrial complex that is the foundation of the local economy and plays a major role in creating key infrastructure for economic growth and job creation.

Incheon Metropolitan City is promoting to innovate manufacturing of aging industrial complexes, create good jobs, and  improve human-centered infrastructure until 2023 by receiving government funding for the industrial complex remodeling project selected by the Government Jobs Committee in 2020, starting with the Smart Green Industrial Complex Creation Project selected by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy in 2019.

In the meantime,  the quality of employment in the Incheon Industrial Complex has gradually deteriorated due to the aging of
facilities, distribution of industries concentrated in traditional manufacturing, production function-oriented facilities, and lack of infrastructure such as worker convenience facilities, and the problem of mismatching jobs is serious due to the youth's  avoidance of employment. Although administrative support and policies to solve this problem have been continued, it is true that there are limits to effective policies due to the lack of private participation.

Hereupon, Incheon Metropolitan City is promoting large-scale renovation projects, which reflects the regional characteristics of aging industrial complexes based on government funds selected through public offerings, such as ▲ High-quality manpower nurturing project ▲ Material, parts, and equipment demonstration support project ▲ Integrated control center establishment ▲ Smart energy platform and logistics center construction project. This is acting as a positive factor for corporate investment by giving companies a key signal of change towards smart and high added value of industrial complexes.

In addition, Incheon Metropolitan City is attracting private investment by actively attracting government environmental improvement funds that support the necessary funds for environmental improvement and industry advancement of old industrial complexes, and concrete results are showing.

Currently, the civil structural upgrading project is increasing rapidly compared to before the implementation of the industrial complex remodeling project, and The environmental improvement fund for project promotion was only 45 billion won for two years from 2018 to 2019, but it attracted 65 billion won in 2020 when the project was implemented, and As of June 2021, it attracted 40 billion won and a total of 105 billion won in environmental improvement funds for one year and six months, an increase of 233% compared to before the project.

It is expected that such effort of Incheon Metropolitan City will lead to improve the working environment and improve the convenience of resident companies by expanding convenience and support facilities with the private sector, and
to become a space where young people want to work and become a cornerstone in resolving the job mismatch.

In addition, it is expected that there will be a synergy effect with the industrial and cultural space remodeling project that transforms an industrial complex into a cultural space, which is currently being promoted by Incheon Metropolitan City.

In line with the urban paradigm change, the 'Industrial and Cultural Space Remodeling Project' aims to improve the negative image of aging industrial complexes, improve working conditions for young workers, and promote a major shift to the civic participatory consumption space and industrial space of culture and art that utilize the characteristics of industrial complexes adjacent to large-scale residential spaces. And Corporate participation in the creation of consumer goods brand experience space,
cultural experience space, and ecological experience space is of paramount importance.
