Of the new hydrogen buses, two buses were assigned to route no. 13, one bus was assigned to route no. 46, and two buses were assigned to route no. 82. No. 13 services the route between the bus depot in Sinheung-dong to Geomam Station, no. 46 services the route between the bus depot in Sinheung-dong to Gulpocheon River, and no. 82 services the route between the bus depot in Sinheung-dong to the northern square at Dongincheon Station.

To celebrate the commissioning of its new hydrogen buses, Incheon hosted a test drive event on October 5. The test drive event was attended by Incheon Mayor Park Nam-chun, Incheon City Council Chairperson Shin Eun-ho, Incheon City Council Industrial Economy Chairperson Lim Dong-joo, Hyundai Motor’s Managing Director Kang Tae-won, Sinheung Transportation President Song Byeong-jin, and Incheon City Bus Transportation Business Association Chairperson Lee In-cheol.

Meanwhile, this marks the first time Incheon is introducing hydrogen buses toits city bus transportation system. Starting on October 6, the hydrogen buses will continue to service routes no. 13, 46, and 82.

A hydrogen bus is a vehicle that uses hydrogen fuel cell technology. Hydrogen chemically reacts with oxygen in the air to generate electricity. Here, while the system acquires oxygen in the air, the filter installed on the bus functions as an air purifier.

For this reason, hydrogen buses are gaining more attention as an eco-friendly means of transportation that can help reduce air pollution and save the environment by eliminating the emission of greenhouse gases and harmful chemicals. Moreover, hydrogen energy has been deemed a safe energy source posing a lower risk than city gas (LNG).

Moreover, it hopes to increase the number of hydrogen charging stations to 20 by 2025 in order to lay the foundation for more hydrogen vehicles in the transportation system.
