- Designating October as ‘Citizens’ Month of Culture' linking Citizens' Day and Culture Day to realize Incheon as a cultural city -
Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced that starting this October, it will designate ‘Citizens’ Month of Culture' linking ‘Citizens’ Day' and ‘Culture Day’ and fully implement the ‘1,000 Won Culture Ticket’ initiative.
The ‘1,000 Won Culture Ticket’ is designed so that any citizen can enjoy diverse cultural content such as performances, sports, and tourism for just 1,000 won. It significantly lowers the barrier to cultural enjoyment by offering tailored programs specifically for culturally underserved groups, including infants, youth, North Korean defectors, and children from local childcare centers and foster care facilities.
Through this initiative, Incheon City plans to designate the entire month of October as ‘Citizen Culture Month’ and operate the ‘1,000 Won Culture Ticket’ program for a total of approximately 5,400 participants.
The program is divided into three categories: ▲ Art performances including concerts by the City Choir, children's classic stage performances, Citizen's Day concerts, and Korean dance ▲ K-League soccer match viewings ▲ City tour bus and Wolmi Sea Train rides.
The arts performance category will be available via online reservation for approximately 1,800 Incheon citizens. Additionally, around 800 preschoolers and lower elementary school students will experience culture through group viewings. While tickets normally cost up to 20,000 won, the ‘1,000 Won Culture Ticket’ allows access for just 1,000 won.
Key performances include a planned concert by the City Choir commemorating the reopening of the Incheon Culture & Arts Center, the children's classic stage ‘Sancho and Don Quixote’, a Citizens' Day concert at Art Center Incheon, and a Korean dance stage by TriBowl. Tickets for these performances can be booked online starting September 11.
Additionally, Incheon City will provide approximately 2,000 youth aged 13 to 18 with the opportunity to watch the K League match between Incheon United and Gyeongnam FC at the Incheon Football Stadium on October 26 for just 1,000 won. Online ticket sales for this event begin on October 22. To facilitate this, a designated youth-only viewing section has been secured.
Furthermore, throughout October, 300 North Korean defectors will be offered the chance to ride the Incheon City Tour Bus, while 500 children from local children's centers and foster care facilities will be given the opportunity to ride the Wolmi Sea Train. Pre-registered participants from districts, centers, and facilities can board after on-site identity verification.
Incheon City plans to pilot this initiative in October and implement it twice annually starting next year, linking it to May's Family Month and October's Citizens' Day.
Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok stated, “The 1,000-won Culture Ticket project is a unique cultural welfare policy designed by Incheon City to ensure every citizen can enjoy culture without financial burden,” adding, “It lowers the barrier to culture, allowing citizens to experience diverse content like culture, sports, and tourism in their daily lives with the joy of 1,000 won.”
He continued, “We will implement this program proactively starting this October to meticulously analyze citizen satisfaction and policy effectiveness. Beginning next year, we will link it to May's Family Month and October's Citizens' Day so that more citizens can enjoy tangible benefits.”
