Incheon Metropolitan City announced that it will operate a “Driver’s License Preparation Program for Foreign Workers” through the Incheon Support Center for Foreign Workers (ICFF), in close cooperation with the Incheon Nonhyeon Police Station. The initiative is designed to enhance traffic safety awareness among foreign workers and support their secure integration into local communities.

As the population of foreign workers residing in Korea continues to grow, a lack of familiarity with the domestic road traffic environment and local traffic regulations has increasingly exposed some individuals to heightened risks of traffic accidents. Furthermore, a significant number of foreign workers face substantial hurdles when preparing for the written driver’s license examination due to language barriers and a lack of accessible information regarding the licensing system.

To address these distinct challenges, ICFF launched this program to proactively prevent traffic accidents through foundational safety education, while also facilitating the stable settlement of foreign workers in the community by offering structured preparatory courses for the written driver’s license examination.

The program consists of two sessions held at the ICFF auditorium. The first session, held on June 14, was attended by 116 workers from Myanmar. The second session, scheduled for June 28, will be offered to workers from the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, and Cambodia.

Conducted in direct collaboration with the Traffic Division of the Incheon Nonhyeon Police Station, the curriculum centers on core topics featured in the written driver’s license examination, including fundamental road traffic laws, essential safety guidelines, traffic signals, and road signs. Participants will also receive comprehensive guidance on official examination procedures and preparation methods, ensuring a seamless transition from classroom training to the actual written test.

In addition, they will be provided with customized study materials for the written examination compiled in Korean, English, and Vietnamese. Through sustained cooperation with the Police Station, those who pass the written test will also be connected to practical support measures, including discounted tuition rates at driving academies for their subsequent behind-the-wheel skills test.

Nam Gyeong-seon, Head of the Overseas Koreans Cooperation Division of Incheon, stated, “Through the combined impact of traffic safety education and this driver’s license preparation program, we expect to substantially improve foreign workers’ understanding of traffic regulations and contribute directly to the prevention of traffic accidents.” She added, “We will continue to work closely with related organizations to provide a diverse array of support programs that help foreign workers adapt smoothly to daily life and achieve successful settlement within our local communities.”
