Incheon, Songdo Designates a Commemorative Road in Honor of Choi Gi-seon, the First Elected Mayor

Incheon has designated a 580-meter section of Academy Road in Songdo International City as “Choi Gi-seon Street” to honor the achievements of the first elected mayor, Choi Gi-seon.

An honorary street name is not used as an actual address, but it can be designated for a period of five years by the head of the local government, considering the individual’s social contributions, public interest, and symbolic significance related to the community.

The city has given the honorary street name to commemorate former Mayor Choi’s achievements in establishing the plan for the Incheon Free Economic Zone and laying the foundation for the development of Incheon National University.

Deputy Mayor Hwang emphasized that former Mayor Choi played a crucial role in the development of Songdo International City and Incheon National University located in the city. He added that the path Mayor Choi envisioned will now connect Incheon with the world and serve as an important foundation for making Incheon an international city.
