“Name the Schools!”… Incheon Holds Contest for Naming 7 New Schools
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education is holding a naming contest for seven new elementary, middle, and high schools until the 27th.
The schools included in the contest are Geomdan Elementary School No. 6, Geomdan Elementary School No. 9, Geomdan Middle School No. 6, Oryu Middle School, Yeongjong Sky Elementary School No.1, Yeongjong Sky Elementary Schoool No.4, and Yeongjong Sky High School No.5.
Among them, Geomdan Elementary School No.6 is scheduled to open this September, while the remaining schools are set to open in March next year.
Anyone interested in participating can submit a proposal through the Office of Education’s website. A gift card worth 100,000 won will be awarded to the individuals who propose the selected names.
The Office of Education plans to select school names that are easy to pronounce while reflecting the meaning of education and the region’s historical and cultural background.
Settlement Support Payments for Residents of West Sea’s Five Islands Increased by 20,000 KRW Per Month
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety has announced that the monthly settlement support payments for residents for the five islands in the West Sea will be increased by 20,000 KRW starting this month.
As a result, residents who have lived on the islands for less than 10 years will see their payments increase from 100,000 KRW to 120,000 KRW, while those who have lived there for 10 years or more will receive an increase from 160,000 KRW to 180,000 KRw.
Since 2011, the government has been providing monthly settlement support payments under the “Special Act on Supporting the Five West Sea Islands” and the “Guidelines for Settlement Support Payments for the Five West Sea Islands” to ensure stable living conditions for residents in this militarily and strategically significant region. The government has pledged to continue efforts to create a stable residential environment for these residents.
Helping You Prepare for Retirement: Incheon to Open Two New Regional Support Centers
The Incheon Metropolitan Government announced that it has established and begun operating two new regional retirement preparation support centers earlier this year to help citizens systematically plan for their later years.
The centers are located within the Incheon Aging Society Response Center and the Namdong-Yeonsu Branch of the National Pension Service.
These centers provide information on the four key areas of retirement preparation: finances, leisure, health, and interpersonal relationships. They also offer individual assessments and counseling on personal preparedness.
Based on the counseling results, the centers will provide linked services with related institutions and operate retirement education programs and specialized initiatives.
Incheon Extends Operating Hours for Agricultural Markets During Lunar New Year
The Incheon Metropolitan Government announced extended operating hours and increased agricultural product supply at the Namchon Agricultural and Livestock Wholesale Market for the Lunar New Year holiday.
The agricultural supply stabilization period will run from January 13th to 28th.
To ensure a stable supply of holiday essentials, the market will increase the trade volume of eight key items, including apples and pears, by more than 10%, from 2,268 tons last year to 2,494 tons this year.
For the convenience of citizens, operating hours will be extended by two hours to 5 PM, and the market will remain open on its regular closure days, January 19th and 26th. However, it will be closed during the Lunar New Year holiday period from January 29th to 31st.
