IFEZ to Apply for Designation of Southern Ganghwa as a Free Economic Zone by End of June


IFEZ announced that the administrative procedures for designating the southern Ganghwa area as a free economic zone are nearing completion.

From June 9 to 23, a draft development plan will be available for public review and feedback. In addition, the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy will hold its third preliminary advisory session on the 16th to gather final expert opinions.

The southern Ganghwa region is part of the airport economic zone adjacent to Incheon International Airport. It is considered a strategic location with potential for linkage with existing IFEZ areas such as Songdo, Yeongjong, and Cheongna. The area is also recognized for its rich cultural heritage and natural environment, offering strong potential for cultural tourism.






Incheon and U.S. to Jointly Develop Seaweed Biomass Technology


The City of Incheon is launching a joint Korea-U.S. research initiative to develop seaweed biomass production technology, as part of a national government-supported project.

Selected for a Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries program, Incheon will over the next five years develop large-scale offshore seaweed farming technology, carbon reduction techniques based on seaweed, and an AI-based integrated aquaculture management platform.

The project will receive a total investment of 41 billion, with participation from over 30 domestic institutions, including the Incheon Fisheries Resources Research Center, and will involve technical and data exchanges with U.S. partners.

Through this project, Incheon aims to support national carbon reduction goals by scientifically validating seaweed’s carbon absorption capacity and obtaining international recognition for its effectiveness as a global carbon sink.







Incheon to Support Smart Manufacturing for Small Manufacturers


The City of Incheon announced it is accepting applications until the 27th for its 2025 Smart Manufacturing Support Program for Small Manufacturers.

This program is designed to enhance productivity and safety by automating manual manufacturing processes and introducing smart technologies.

The city plans to select approximately 100 small manufacturers and provide up to 5 million in support for each business.







Incheon to Host Special Walking Tour Honoring Art Historian Go Yuseop


To commemorate the 120th birthday of Korea’s first art historian Go Yuseop, the Incheon Metropolitan City Museum will host a special edition of its walking tour program, “Step by Step, Incheon,” retracing Go’s school commute route.

Born in Yong-dong, Incheon, Go graduated from Incheon Public Elementary School and later attended Bosung High School in Seoul before studying aesthetics and art history at the Faculty of Literature and Philosophy at Keijō Imperial University.

In 1933, at the age of 28, he became the director of the Kaesong Provincial Museum and remained active in the field until his passing in 1944, laying the foundation for Korean art history.

The tour will take place on the afternoon of June 18, following the old path from Changyeong Elementary School to the site of his childhood home in Yong-dong, offering a look at the streets and spaces that shaped his early life.






Incheon Begins First Shipment of Summer Flowers from Mansu Nursery


The Geyang Park Management Office of Incheon announced the first shipment of 131,200 summer flower seedlings produced at the Mansu nursery.

The flowers, including five summer species such as melampodium, were directly sown and cultivated at the nursery starting in March. This marks the first shipment since the nursery was equipped with a smart automation system.

A representative from the Geyang Park Management Office stated, “We will continue to supply high-quality seasonal flowers to bring the beauty of each season to our citizens.”







Incheon Customs to Inspect Imported Summer Leisure Products Ahead of Vacation Season


Incheon Main Customs announced it will conduct intensive inspections of imported summer leisure goods through August 10 in preparation for the vacation season.

The inspections will target 14 items, including swimsuits, float tubes, life vests, and electric insect repellents, which are commonly used for water activities and camping.

Customs authorities expect an increase in imports of these goods during the summer and will focus on identifying violations related to safety certifications, proper labeling of origin, trademark infringements, and item classifications.







Incheon Office of Education Receives Ministerial Award for Records Management


The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education announced that it received a Ministerial Commendation in the “2025 National Records Management Awards” organized by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, in recognition of its contributions to advancing national records management.

The award honors individuals and institutions that have made significant contributions to the field, including those that performed well in institutional records management evaluations and helped develop national records management policies.

The Incheon Office of Education ranked first nationwide in the records management evaluation conducted by the National Archives of Korea, demonstrating excellence across all areas of records management.





Cheongna Lake Library Celebrates 10th Anniversary with Cultural Events


Cheongna Lake Library, a branch of Michuhol Library in Incheon, is celebrating its 10th anniversary this June with a month-long series of events open to the public.

The events are designed to express gratitude for the continued support of citizens and to reaffirm the library’s role as a cultural hub within the local community.

Some programs require advance registration, which can be completed through the library’s website or by scanning the event QR code.
