Incheon City will invest 3 billion won to prevent coastal flooding on Deokjeok Island
Incheon Metropolitan City has announced that it will provide 3 billion won to support a coastal flood prevention project in Buk-ri, Deokjeok Island.
The coastal road in the area has repeatedly suffered flooding during high tide periods, with seawater flowing onto the island.
To address this, Ongjin-gun plans to install a seawall and upgrade drainage systems along a 500-meter stretch of road by this December.
Incheon’s disaster response camp for children ends on a high note
Incheon City successfully held the 2025 Children’s Disaster Response Experience Camp on June 14 at Gyeyang Gymnasium.
Co-hosted with the Korean Red Cross and the Incheon Fire Department Headquarters, the camp offered hands-on training for children and their guardians to build disaster response skills.
80 families with elementary school-aged children took part, experiencing various emergency situations and learning practical ways to respond.
Incheon trains new traffic safety leaders through education program
Incheon Metropolitan City, in collaboration with the Korea Transportation Safety Authority, the Korea Road Traffic Authority, and the Incheon Fire Department Headquarters, conducted a training program to develop new "Traffic Safety Leaders" on June 12 and 13.
The initiative is part of the city’s ongoing efforts since 2019 to strengthen the capabilities of local traffic organizations. This year, 33 members of the Incheon Green Mothers’ Association completed the training, bringing the total number of trained leaders to 146.
These leaders will undergo internship-based field training at local children's traffic safety parks and, starting on June 25, will begin volunteering in on-site traffic safety education programs for children across the city.
Incheon expands community-based care services to close welfare gaps
Incheon Metropolitan City is launching a new community-led care service project in partnership with the Incheon Metropolitan City Public Agency for Social Service, aiming to close welfare gaps across the region.
A total of eight organizations have been selected for this year’s program, including six operating independently and two consortium teams. These organizations—ranging from comprehensive welfare centers and facilities for people with disabilities and the elderly to social cooperatives, social enterprises, and village enterprises—will run customized care programs tailored to the unique needs of each community until November.
To support these efforts, the city will provide 5 million won to each individual organization and 24 million won to each consortium team. The project focuses on delivering services that reflect local characteristics while supporting vulnerable groups in need of care.
Incheon begins study to improve youth job policies
Incheon Metropolitan City has launched a research project aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of its youth employment policies, with the goal of building a sustainable job ecosystem for young people.
The research will establish strategic directions and implementation plans for the city’s youth employment initiatives over the next five years from 2026 to 2030. It also aims to identify the limitations of existing policies and propose practical alternatives that can drive real change in youth employment.It will run through December and include policy forums to share progress, develop an action roadmap, and establish collaboration plans across institutions.
Incheon installs seawater desalination systems on remote islands
Incheon’s Waterworks Division is pushing forward with seawater desalination and water source development on remote islands facing water shortages.Since July last year, the city has been conducting basic and detailed design services for a seawater desalination facility on Baengnyeong island. Once construction is complete, the water supply will be integrated into the regional water supply network, allowing the city to provide a stable daily supply of 2,200 cubic meters of clean tap water to the region.
A separate desalination facility is also under construction on Ul island in Deokjeok-myeon, Ongjin-gun. Construction began in November last year and is expected to be completed by June next year, after which water will begin to be supplied. The facility is designed to produce 80 cubic meters of potable water per day.
