Incheon’s Jungbong Tunnel Project Clears First-Stage Review


Incheon Metropolitan City says the privately funded Jungbong Tunnel project—part of its northern development plan—has passed the first-stage evaluation under the third-party proposal system.

The bidder, tentatively named Jungbong Tunnel Corporation and led by DL E&C, met requirements in construction capability, design, and financial stability.

With the proposal clearing the initial review, the city will move directly to the second-stage evaluation without issuing a new notice.






Incheon Outlines Roadmap Ahead of Launch of Loneliness Care Center


Incheon Metropolitan City held a meeting yesterday at City Hall with agencies involved in loneliness response, outlining policy plans for the new Loneliness Care Center set to launch in January 2026.

The session, held under the theme “From isolation to connection,” served as early preparation for a more systematic approach to addressing social loneliness.

Incheon City will strengthen cooperation with district offices and partner organizations, while closely reviewing and refining new and expanded programs to ensure sustainable implementation.






Incheon Conducts Readiness Drill for Newly Designated Class-1 Infectious Disease, Nipah Virus


Incheon Metropolitan City carried out an infectious disease emergency response drill yesterday at City Hall, focusing on preparedness for emerging and re-emerging health threats.

The drill was organized in response to Nipah virus infection, which was recently classified as a Class-1 infectious disease in Korea. Officials reviewed the effectiveness of existing response manuals and procedures, while strengthening the on-site capabilities of epidemiological investigators.

About 50 epidemiologists and disease-control officials from the city and district health centers took part in the session, which included expert briefings as well as hands-on, scenario-based training.





Incheon Showcases “i-Plus Dream” Birth Policy Series at 2025 Korea Government Innovation Fair


Incheon Metropolitan City is taking part in the 2025 Korea Government Innovation Fair, held from December 3 to 5 in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do. Incheon city is operating an interactive exhibition booth highlighting its six-part “i-Plus Dream” policy series, a key pillar of Incheon’s birth and family support initiatives.

Hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the fair presents the government’s innovation outcomes and future vision to the public.

Incheon’s booth is located in the “Growing Regions” section, where visitors can explore the city’s policy innovations and its vision for a more child-friendly, supportive urban environment.






Incheon Subway Line 2 to Replace Train Seats with Reinforced Plastic


The Incheon Transit Corporation is moving ahead with a project to replace passenger seats on Incheon Subway Line 2 trains with glass-reinforced plastic seats through 2028, investing more than 700 million won in the upgrade.

The corporation plans to begin with 16 trainsets this year and gradually replace seats on all 43 trains in operation.

The new reinforced plastic seats are more resistant to stains and damage, and the improved durability is expected to reduce maintenance costs by roughly 1.6 billion won over the long term.





Michuhol-gu Breaks Ground on New Government Office Building


Michuhol-gu in Incheon held a groundbreaking ceremony on December 3, at the district office sports field for its new government complex.

The new building, set for completion in 2029, will be constructed on the current site in Sungui-dong at a cost of 80 billion Won. Plans call for a facility with two underground floors, eight above-ground floors, and a total floor area of 25,750 square meters.

The project will be funded and built by DCRE—the developer of the Yonghyeon, Hagik District 1 urban development project—as part of its public contribution, after which the building will be donated to the district. 





Namdong-gu Launches Weekly Meal Donation Program Using Surplus School Food


Namdong-gu in Incheon has begun operating a new meal donation initiative that repurposes surplus food from school kitchens.

Starting this week, the “Hope Meal Sharing Program” will run every Tuesday, using unused food prepared in advance by Munil Girls’ High School and Inje High School—marking the first project of its kind in Incheon.

The donated food is packaged at the Guwol Community Welfare Center, and volunteers from its “Hope Sharing Team” personally deliver the meals to vulnerable households.
