Incheon Registers First Outstanding Architectural Assets


Incheon Metropolitan City has officially registered two buildings as its first Outstanding Architectural Assets. I-eum1977 was, a private residence located in Songhak-dong, Jung-gu, has been designated as the first asset. The building, completed in 1977, designed by renowned Korean architect Kim Swoo-geun. Meanwhile, Baeknyeon I-eum, an old shop located in Jung-gu District’s Chinatown area was designated as asset No. 2. The designations mark the first use of a system introduced under a 2015 ordinance to preserve and promote the city’s valuable architectural heritage.






Three ‘Scooter-Free Zones’ Designated for Pedestrian Safety


The city of Incheon has designated three pilot “Scooter-free Zones” in efforts to prevent pedestrian accidents. The zones include two sections of the Songdo private academy district in Yeonsu-gu, and one section of Bupyeong’s Culture Street. The three zones were designated in December from seven candidates following a demand survey by Incheon’s autonomous districts and a traffic safety review by the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency. With the designations, Incheon has become the second local government in Korea, after Seoul, to restrict the use of electric scooters at the municipal level.






Incheon to Unveil City Vision Video at CES 2026


Incheon Metropolitan City will unveil its city vision video, “To the Children of the Future,” for the first time at CES 2026. CES is the world’s largest IT and home appliance trade show, with this year’s event to be held in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9. The video’s main message is “Global Top 10 City Incheon,” highlighting Incheon’s long-term urban development goals focusing on the daily lives of future generations. The presentation will mark the first time a Korean local government presents a city vision video through an official CES exhibition hall.






SL Corp. Considers Large-Scale Landfill Solar Power Projects


The Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation has announced it is conducting a financial feasibility study for Landfill Zone 4, in line with the government’s policy to expand the use of renewable energy. The corporation plans to build large-scale solar power plants on idle landfill sites in the Seoul Metropolitan Area. Landfill Zone 4 spans nearly 3.9 million square meters across Incheon and Gimpo. Profitability and project structure will be closely examined before any full-scale development moves forward.






New Volumes of Incheon’s ‘History & Culture Series’ Published


Incheon Metropolitan City has released three new volumes of the Incheon History & Culture Series. Volumes 102 through 104 of the series have been published. First launched in 2003 with Volume 1 “Incheon’s History and Culture,” the series has published annual works exploring Incheon’s heritage and cultural significance. City officials hope the latest publications will deepen civic pride and broaden public interest in humanities.






Incheon Prepares for Super-Aged Society through Social Participation Programs for Elderly


The Incheon Institute has proposed a plan to strengthen social participation and lifelong learning for seniors as part of its 2025 research project. The Institute says while the population of seniors aged 60 and above is rapidly increasing, the supply of leisure and learning facilities and programs remain insufficient to meet demand. In the report, it recommended integrated programs linking sports, arts, volunteering, and education to promote physical, emotional, and social well-being among older adults.






School-Age Population Decline Becomes Reality in Incheon


Incheon’s school-age population has fallen below 20,000 for the first time. According to the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, only 19,816 children are eligible for elementary school entry in 2026, a 6.28 percent decrease from the previous year. It marks the first time the figure has dropped into the 10,000 range.
