Pheasant’s Eye Bloom At Incheon Arboretum, Signaling Start Of Spring


The Incheon Grand Park Office has announced that Adonis amurensis, or Pheasant’s eye, has started to bloom at the Incheon Arboretum in the first bloom of the year. Known by the nickname “ice-breaking flower” for blooming through snow and ice, Pheasant’s eye symbolizes good fortune and longevity. It also symbolizes the onset of spring by delivering the first news of the season after enduring the cold winter. The bloom was first observed on Feb. 21 in a managed test specimen as part of research on flowering promotion and growth changes.





Incheon To Strengthen Competitiveness With Integrated Island Brand


Incheon Metropolitan City will enhance competitiveness under a unified brand. Called “Incheon Islands,” the initiative integrates transportation, design, and tourism across islands scattered in the West Sea. The city recently unveiled the “Incheon Islands Route Map,” which shows the location and access routes of the islands in one glance. The map is a key outcome of the Integrated Design Development and Pilot Project for Incheon Islands. The city is also planning follow-up projects in collaboration with the Incheon Tourism Organization and the Incheon Port Authority, including development of a mobile app for searching Incheon Islands and improvements to passenger terminal environments.





Incheon Startup Park Expands Facilities, Recruiting 23 New Resident Companies


The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority will expand facilities and demonstration programs at Incheon Startup Park. The park is Korea’s largest startup support complex. In addition to the existing two buildings, Insta I and II, a third building, Insta III, with three above-ground floors and a total floor area of 4,370 square meters, will open after remodeling. Applications will be accepted through March 4 to recruit 23 new resident companies. The authority will also operate 13 field-specific demonstration programs and strengthen support so that results lead to public procurement, investment, and global expansion.





Incheon To Provide Special Guarantees For Small Businesses


Incheon Metropolitan City will simultaneously launch three special guarantee programs on Feb. 27. The programs focus on youth startups, job creation and support for small manufacturers.  The programs aim to revitalize youth entrepreneurship, create and maintain jobs, and strengthen manufacturing foundations, benefiting around 1,200 businesses with a budget of 37.5 billion won. The programs will be operated through the Incheon Credit Guarantee Foundation and seven partner financial institutions. Applications will primarily be processed online through the mobile app “Bojeung Dream,” while digitally vulnerable persons including the elderly and disabled as well as pregnant women may apply in person at the foundation’s branch office.





Incheon Institute To Host 9th On-Site Policy Dialogue


The Incheon Institute will hold its 9th On-Site Policy Dialogue at the Bupyeong Southern Senior Culture Center on Feb. 25. Discussions will be held on how working seniors can contribute to solving community issues and revitalizing local society amid policy changes in senior job programs. Although Incheon’s birthrate has been rising, it still needs working seniors to address labor shortages in an era of population crisis. Local industries with high proportions of senior workers include agriculture and fisheries (59.5%), business facility management and rental services (24.2%), and public administration and social security administration (21.3%).





Incheon to Boost Fishing Village Competitiveness through Returnee School


Incheon Metropolitan City will push ahead with strengthened seafood safety inspections and professional workforce training this year through its Fisheries School for Returnees. The initiative aims to ensure safe seafood supply and sustainable growth of fishing communities. The Incheon Fisheries Technology Support Center plans to conduct more than 300 detailed inspections annually to enhance seafood safety. Scientific analyses will be conducted on 169 items, including radiation, heavy metals, and antibiotic substances, at aquaculture farms and seafood auction markets. Meanwhile, the Incheon Fisheries School for Returnees is focusing on training professional manpower to address population decline in fishing villages.
