Incheon Mayor Signs MOU With Prestigious UK International School
Incheon Metropolitan City Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok has visited prestigious schools in the UK in efforts to attract global educational institutions to Incheon. On Feb. 24 (local time), he visited the main campuses of Wycombe Abbey and Rugby School. Wycombe Abbey has been selected as the preferred bidder for the Yeongjong Midan City international school project. The mayor toured its facilities, and signed a memorandum of understanding with Chair Peter Warren to cooperate on the establishment of the international school. Both sides plan to push ahead with the school’s establishment, with plans to sign a project agreement in the first half of this year. The international school is expected to open in the second half of 2028. The mayor also visited Rugby School, a 450-year-old institution located in Rugby, Warwickshire, near London. He met with Chair Nicholas Bacon and Headmaster Gareth Parker Jones, toured the campus, and engaged in efforts to attract new international schools to Songdo.
Incheon To Conduct Safety Inspections During Thawing Season
Incheon Metropolitan City will conduct safety inspections at facilities vulnerable during the thawing season. The inspection will take place at 588 facilities from February 23 to April 10, in efforts to prevent accidents such as collapses, ground subsidence, and falling rocks caused by weakened soil. The thawing season is a period when frozen ground melts, increasing the risk of cracks, subsidence, and structural collapse, making preemptive inspections and proactive safety management crucial. Inspection targets include 50 slopes, 258 steep hillsides, 50 road retaining walls and stone embankments, 142 construction sites, 17 reservoirs, and 11 national heritage sites. Facilities with a higher risk of collapse will be inspected first.
Incheon Expands Support For Fire Mutual Insurance To Protect Traditional Markets
Incheon Metropolitan City will continue promoting fire safety policies and encourage enrollment in fire mutual insurance to traditional market merchants. The initiative is to prepare against traditional market fires and create a stable business environment for merchants. Due to the high density of shops and aging electrical and gas facilities, traditional markets are structurally vulnerable to large-scale fire damage, making both prevention and rapid compensation systems critically important. The city is building safety infrastructure for fire prevention while also supporting the mutual insurance system to ease merchants’ financial burdens in the event of a fire. The traditional market fire mutual insurance is operated by the Small Enterprise & Market Service for merchants in fire-prone traditional markets. Coverage ranges from a minimum of 1 million won to a maximum of 100 million won.
