Care Infrastructure Remains Weak in Island Regions of Incheon

Care infrastructure for seniors with limited mobility in Incheon’s island regions remains inadequate despite expanded services nationwide. The Integrated Care Support Act is set to take effect on March 27, and home-based medical care centers for seniors have been increasing across the nation. In Incheon, a total of 21 long-term care home-based medical centers are either in operation or scheduled to be established. However, only one facility, Yeongheung Woori Clinic in Yeongheung-myeon, has been designated by the Ministry of Health and Welfare as a home-based medical care center in Ongjin-gun. There is a need to expand such centers in island regions as they are a core component of integrated care, as a team of doctors, nurses and social workers provide visiting medical services once a month, and visiting nursing care twice a month for long-term care recipients.

Songdo Convensia Phase 3 Expansion Project Gets Underway

The expansion project for Songdo Convensia, a high-tech convention and exhibition center in Songdo International City, is moving forward. The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority announced that it plans to commission a basic plan and feasibility study for the third phase of the project as early as next month. Since opening its first phase in 2008 and completing its second phase in 2018, Songdo Convensia has grown into one of Korea’s top five convention centers alongside KINTEX in Goyang, COEX in Seoul, BEXCO in Busan, and EXCO in Daegu. By the end of this year, the authority aims to finalize a third-phase plan to build a 14,000-square-meter exhibition hall and commercial facilities where the current outdoor parking lot is located.

The project, led by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, was launched with a total budget of 24 billion won, to respond to international regulations such as UN R155 and strengthened U.S. regulations on connected car security. If selected, the authority plans to install nine types of testing and evaluation equipment at the Connected Car Materials and Components Certification Center in Robot Land, Seo-gu, and support automakers and auto parts companies in building cybersecurity systems.

World Tuberculosis Day was established in 1982 to mark the 100th anniversary of the discovery of the tuberculosis bacterium, and aims to raise awareness and promote global cooperation for TB prevention and treatment. In Korea, March 24 has been designated as Tuberculosis Prevention Day since 2011, with annual commemorative events and nationwide campaigns held by local governments.

Incheon To Inspect Indoor Air Quality At 159 Facilities Including Subways

The Incheon Institute of Health and Environment will conduct indoor air quality inspections at 157 major multi-use facilities and two public transportation lines through December. The inspections will be held to protect public health and maintain a pleasant indoor environment. The facilities that will undergo inspection include 119 priority-managed sites such as daycare centers and medical institutions, and 38 self-managed facilities including large retail stores and indoor parking lots. Subway Lines 1 and 2 will also be inspected during both peak and off-peak hours. Starting in 2026, stricter standards for fine particulate matter will apply to facilities such as libraries, museums, art galleries, large retail stores, and academies, lowering the allowable limit from 50㎍/㎥ to 40㎍/㎥. Accordingly, monitoring and management will be further strengthened.
