Green Korea Incheon calls for review of floating solar power project on Yeongjong dredged soil site
Green Korea Incheon has urged a full review of a floating solar power project planned by the Incheon Port Authority, saying the Yeongjong Island 2nd Dredged Soil Disposal Site is a critical habitat for endangered waterbirds worldwide. The group said it observed around 4,200 of the endangered Far Eastern Curlew at the site on October 10 last year. It claims the figure accounts for approximately 15% of the species’ estimated global population. The group also stressed the need for systematic, nationwide management not only of the disposal site but also of nearby tidal flats and inland wetlands.
Incheon to provide rent support for young adults with no home
Incheon Metropolitan City will provide monthly rent support for non-homeowning young adults. Eligible applicants will receive 200,000 won in support for up to 24 months, totaling 4.8 million won. The measure aims to ease housing costs for young people. To qualify, applicants must be non-homeowning individuals aged 19 to 39 who live separately from their parents. Both the applicant and their original household must meet income and asset criteria. The applicant must have an income at or below 60% of the standard median income and assets worth 122 million won or less, while their original households must have an income at or below 100% of the standard median income and assets worth 470 million won or less.
Solar panels along Yeongjong coastal bike path reconsidered
A previously scrapped plan to install solar power facilities along a coastal bike path on Yeongjong Island is being reconsidered. The project was scrapped three years ago due to resident opposition. However, according to Jung-gu officials, private firm Kookmin Solar recently applied for permission to occupy part of the bike path to proceed with the project. The plan involves installing shade structures along a 7.6-kilometer section of the Yeongjongdo Coastal Bike Path, built in 2021, and placing solar panels on top to generate electricity. Similar projects have been implemented in cities such as Ansan, Sejong, Asan, and Gwangyang.
