Incheon to Build Emergency Water Pipelines Between Treatment Plants
Incheon Metropolitan City will build emergency pipeline connections between water treatment plants to ensure a stable supply of tap water in the event of accidents or damage to existing pipelines. The city will invest 73.7 billion won to install 4.9 kilometers of new water pipes. A 2.1-kilometer pipeline linking the Namdong and Susan Water Treatment Plants is scheduled for completion by March 2028, while a 2.8-kilometer connection between the Gongchon and Bupyeong Plants is set to finish by October 2029. City officials said some lanes will need to be temporarily reduced during construction, but traffic control measures and flaggers will be deployed to minimize inconvenience to residents.
Incheon Holds Joint Disaster Preparedness Meeting Ahead of Summer Storms and Heat Waves
A joint disaster preparedness meeting has been held on May 12 with representatives from government agencies, the military, police, and district offices to review response plans for summer heavy rain and extreme heat. The meeting took place at Incheon’s disaster video conference room and was attended by officials from related agencies as well as vice heads of local governments. City officials said the session was organized to strengthen interagency coordination and develop field-oriented safety measures as increasingly unpredictable weather patterns make natural disasters more difficult to forecast. Key topics included real-time weather monitoring and information sharing, tougher preemptive closure standards for underpasses and riverside walkways, and maintenance of drainage facilities such as storm drains and manholes.
Incheon and Incheon National University to Tackle Social Isolation Together
Incheon Metropolitan City and Incheon National University will work together to address loneliness and social isolation among city residents. The two sides have signed a business agreement with the goal of “responding to loneliness and social isolation and realizing an inclusive society.” The partnership aims to promote a more inclusive society by recognizing loneliness as a broader social issue rather than an individual concern. Under the agreement, the two sides will expand cooperation in education and research and develop a range of community-linked programs.
Lake Cheongna Library Launches Reading Program for Children
Lake Cheongna Library has been selected for the National Library for Children and Young Adults’ 2026 “Reading Together with Libraries” initiative. As part of the program, the library will offer a 16-session program for children at the Simgok Community Children’s Center beginning this month. The theme of this program is “Art Through Books,” focusing on enhancing children’s creativity and interest in reading through various art activities linked to books. There will be reading programs combining books, art, and music, while children will be able to meet and interact with author So Yeon-jeong, broadening their understanding of books. On May 6, children toured Lake Cheongna Library and took part in a book call-number treasure hunt to heighten their interest in books for the first session.
Incheon Education Office to Offer Career Talks at Schools
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education will run a “Visiting Professional Career Talk” program from May 14 through July 31 at 16 middle and high schools in the city. The initiative will prioritize schools in older urban neighborhoods and two newly opened schools. The talks will be conducted in a “relay format, where students hear from working professionals in different industries consecutively, to allow them to experience diverse industries in a short period of time. Lecturers are working professionals in seven fields, including information technology, healthcare, the public sector, management, media and the arts. A total of 388 sessions are scheduled to provide practical career guidance and insights into various occupations.
