The initiative is aimed at fostering the local quantum technology industry and identifying practical applications in the field of public safety. The city plans to establish a monitoring system that uses quantum sensors to quickly and accurately detect trace amounts of illegal drugs in wastewater. City officials say conventional wastewater drug analysis has limitations as it relies heavily on laboratory-based precision testing, which can take considerable time from sample collection to the release of results.





Incheon Builds Real-Time Update System for Newly Opened Roads and Bridges


Incheon Metropolitan City has established a real-time monitoring and checklist management system to ensure that information on newly opened roads, tunnels, bridges, and underpasses is promptly reflected in administrative systems and public and private digital maps. The move is intended to eliminate delays that have caused inconvenience for residents using GPS systems and map applications that have failed to reflect updated information after new infrastructure has opened. Under the new system, the city will monitor each project from the planning and construction stages through opening and completion. Key tasks will include naming locations, assigning road names, conducting cadastral surveys, building spatial information databases, and capturing drone imagery to minimize delays in updating map information.





Incheon Recruits Citizens to Monitor Climate Risks in Daily Life


Incheon Metropolitan City is launching a public-private initiative to identify climate adaptation policies that address risks residents experience in their daily lives. The city is recruiting 30 members for its Climate Crisis Adaptation Monitoring Group through May 29. Participants will inspect sites affected by climate-related hazards such as heat waves and flooding and propose practical solutions. The city says it plans to incorporate residents’ recommendations into future climate adaptation plans, improvements in vulnerable areas, and the development of new policies.

Incheon Metropolitan City Museum says it will host the second lecture of the 28th Museum Academy’s spring semester on May 22, featuring Lee Tae-soo, Professor Emeritus at Seoul National University. The lecture, titled “The Odyssey: A Journey to Discover Myself,” will examine the meaning of human existence and identity through the Greek classic, The Odyssey. Rather than viewing the work simply as a heroic tale, the lecture will interpret it as a narrative of departure and return in search of one’s true self.





Gachon Univ. Gil Medical Center Establishes Korea’s First Critical Emergency Center


Gachon University Gil Medical Center says it has established the nation’s first Critical Emergency Center to strengthen the response system for emergency patients in critical condition. The new center will maintain the operational structure of government-designated specialty medical centers while integrating emergency command and coordination. It will bring together management of emergency medical fields such as cardiovascular and cerebrovascular emergencies, severe trauma, high-risk pregnancies, neonatal care, and pediatric emergencies under a single hospital unit system. The center also plans to assign specialists from multiple departments alongside emergency care physicians to enable multidisciplinary treatment from the earliest stages.






Incheon Police Inspect School Routes to Ease Safety Concerns


The Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency says it has inspected school routes in a densely populated school district in Michuhol-gu to strengthen student safety. The inspection follows the high school student murder case in Gwangju, which has heightened concerns among students and parents. Police will conduct a 10-week special safety campaign tailored to students in cooperation with neighborhood patrol groups and private security companies. The agency also plans to deploy drones from its regional preventive patrol unit to monitor school routes.
