Coast Guard to Develop AI-Based Maritime Emergency Dispatch System
The Korea Coast Guard will begin developing an artificial intelligence (AI)-based emergency dispatch system. The agency will hold a project kickoff briefing on May 30 for the “Development of an AI-Based Maritime Emergency Reception and Response System” and begin full-scale research and development. The project aims to enhance the maritime emergency reporting system by addressing challenges unique to marine communications, including background noise and weak signal reception. The initiative will be linked to the ongoing development of the Next-Generation Maritime Situational Awareness (MSA) System. Research will continue through 2028, with nationwide deployment at Coast Guard operation centers targeted for 2029.
Hana Financial Group’s New Headquarters in Cheongna Finishes Construction
Hana Financial Group’s new headquarters complex in Cheongna International City has finished construction. Located near Cheongna International City Station, the headquarters building consists of seven basement levels and 15 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 128,000 square meters. The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) estimates that a total of 4,000 Hana Financial Group employees will eventually work in Cheongna under the three-phase Hana Dream Town development project, with approximately 2,200 employees set to relocate beginning in September.
Environment Day Celebration to be Held at Incheon Grand Park on June 5
The Incheon Metropolitan Government, together with the Incheon Environmental Corporation and the Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education, will hold a ceremony marking the 31st Environment Day on June 5 at Incheon Grand Park. Centered on this year’s World Environment Day theme, “Climate Action,” the event aims to raise awareness about the urgency of addressing the climate crisis while introducing practical ways citizens can participate in carbon-neutral lifestyles. The city plans to use the event to promote everyday climate-friendly practices, including the use of reusable products, proper waste separation, and participation in carbon-neutral incentive programs, while building public support for its vision of a carbon-neutral future city.
Incheon Conducts Joint Safety Inspections for Summer Power Outage Prevention
The Incheon Metropolitan Government is conducting joint safety inspections of apartment complexes that are aged 20 years or older with 100 units or more to help prevent summer power outages and improve public safety. The inspections will take place from April through July. Over the past four years, the city has inspected 239 apartment complexes and carried out detailed safety assessments at 29 sites identified as requiring special attention. Based on inspection results, Incheon plans to connect apartment complexes with support programs offered by the Korea Electric Power Corporation to replace or repair aging electrical equipment, including transformers and power distribution systems.
Incheon Steps Up Preparations Ahead of Record Cruise Ship Arrivals
The Incheon Metropolitan Government has conducted a joint on-site inspection at the Incheon International Cruise Terminal in Yeonsu-gu to improve convenience for international cruise passengers. The latest inspection was aimed at enhancing the travel experience of overseas visitors in order to strengthen Incheon’s reputation as a global tourism destination. Incheon expects a record 127 cruise ship calls and approximately 200,000 cruise passengers this year.
Nutrition Teachers Satisfied With Incheon’s School Rice Supply Program
Incheon’s school meal rice supply program, launched in 2022, has received overwhelmingly positive reviews from school nutrition teachers. With the program’s satisfaction levels approaching 94 percent, it has firmly established itself as a “local food mutual growth model.” According to a survey of nutrition teachers at 553 participating schools, 93.9 percent of respondents said they were either “satisfied” or “very satisfied” with the program overall. Unlike previous subsidy-based approaches, the city directly selects and supplies high-quality eco-friendly rice to schools, a strategy that officials say has helped establish the program as a successful local food partnership model.
