Concerns are growing over emergency response capabilities on Gureopdo, an island located about three hours by boat from mainland Incheon, due to the lack of a functioning helipad for medical evacuations. According to Incheon’s Ongjin-gu, 22 of the county’s 23 inhabited islands have helipads, with Gureopdo being the only exception. Although a helipad once operated on the island’s sandy beach, it has been unusable for years due to accumulated sand and overgrown vegetation. Residents are calling for the swift installation of a new helipad, saying the island’s emergency medical response system remains inadequate despite a growing number of tourists visiting the popular backpacking destination.
Incheon to Resume ‘Live City Administration Tour’ Program on June 4
The Incheon Metropolitan Government will officially resume its “Live City Administration Tour” program on June 4 after a temporary suspension in accordance with election law restrictions.
The program, which first launched in March, was put on hold during the legally mandated 60-day pre-election period in accordance with the Public Official Election Act. With operations resuming, the city plans to introduce a wider range of tour content. Applications can be submitted through the city’s official website, with reservations available up to 90 days in advance of the desired tour date.
Incheon to Hold Month-Long Memorial Events for Patriots and Veterans Month
Patriotic and Veterans Affairs City, Incheon will hold a series of commemorative cultural events throughout the month of June to honor the sacrifice and dedication of fallen patriots and war veterans as part of Patriots and Veterans Month. The events will center on three themes, remembrance and tribute; respect and gratitude; and participation and succession, with programs designed to help citizens and younger generations naturally engage with the meaning of remembrance in their daily lives. Incheon Office of Education Launches Activities of 6th Student Participation Committee
The Incheon Metropolitan Office of Education’s 6th Student Participation Committee has officially begun activities. The committee’s first regular meeting was held on May 27. The committee, established under the “Ordinance on the Organization and Operation of the Incheon Student Participation Committee,” has been operating since 2021 as a student self-governance body that provides input on education policies affecting students. The committee plans to develop various education policy proposals through five divisions focused on administrative safety and public relations, career development, international exchange, and student welfare.
Incheon Promotes Public Healthcare Support Program ‘Incheon Healing Hands’
The Incheon Medical Center has promoted “Incheon Healing Hands,” a public healthcare and welfare program jointly operated with the city government, during the “Sharing Happy Memories with the Red Cross” event. The event was organized by the Incheon chapter of the Korean Red Cross to support dementia prevention and care for vulnerable seniors and those at high risk of dementia. Elderly residents and staff members from 44 local care facilities attended the event.
“Incheon Healing Hands” is one of the city’s signature public healthcare support programs, providing services ranging from cancer screenings to surgery expense assistance for residents facing financial hardship or gaps in medical care.
Inha University Students Win Bosch Future Mobility Challenge
Inha University’s mechanical engineering students Choi Min-hyuk and Jang Dong-min have recently won the grand prize at the “Bosch Future Mobility Challenge 2026” (BFMC). BFMC is an international autonomous driving competition launched in 2017 by Bosch, one of the world’s largest multinational engineering companies, for undergraduate and graduate students around the world. Participants compete by developing autonomous driving algorithms for 1:10 scale model vehicles provided by Bosch, with final evaluations conducted during the championship round. An Inha University official expressed hope that the achievement would mark the beginning of the students’ growth into key talents who will lead the future mobility industry.
