Incheon Reports Sharp Drop in Lovebug Complaints
Complaints related to Plecia longiforceps, commonly known as lovebugs, have dropped significantly in Incheon this year following large-scale pest control efforts.
Incheon Metropolitan City recorded 185 complaints related to lovebugs this year, down 87.8 percent from 1,512 complaints during the same period last year.
Officials attributed the sharp decline to a shift from reactive pest control to a proactive management system that targets breeding habitats from the larval stage.
Incheon Launches Policy Lab to Turn Youth Ideas into Real-World Programs
Young people's policy proposals in Incheon will now move beyond the planning stage and be tested in real-world administrative settings before being reflected in city policy.
Incheon Metropolitan City will launch a full-scale "Policy Lab" to pilot and evaluate policy ideas developed by young people, strengthening participatory governance by placing youth at the center of policy design.
The city plans to test selected proposals in the field from this month through October in conjunction with the Policy Lab and assess their effectiveness.
Incheon's Namdong Industrial Complex Selected as Cultural Innovation Hub
Incheon’s Namdong Culture-Leading Industrial Complex project has been selected in the 2026 national competition for cultural industrial complexes.
The city had been pursuing this project to restore competitiveness and boost regional vitality. Incheon officials said the project earned high marks from the evaluation committee for its strategy to transform the industrial complex from a "gray workplace" into a vibrant space where young people, culture, and industry coexist.
The proposal also highlighted storytelling that combines the area's history, ecology, and industrial heritage, along with a cultural ecosystem involving young people, workers, and local residents.
The four-year project will be carried out from 2026 to 2029 with a total budget of 58.7 billion won.
Incheon Saeil Center Turns Young Women's Policy Ideas into Job Programs
A participatory policy-making model that allows young women to design employment policies and have them translated into actual government programs is gaining momentum in Incheon.
The Incheon Metropolitan Saeil Center announced that it has linked employment policy proposals developed by young women based on their firsthand experiences with local Women's Saeil Center programs, while establishing a collaborative network with four centers in Incheon and Gyeonggi Province.
The proposals will be shared with managers from eight Women's Saeil Centers across Incheon, with outstanding ideas to be considered for pilot projects or inclusion in next year's full-scale programs.
Incheon Technopark Expands Support for Foreign Entrepreneurs
Incheon Foreign Start-up Challenge (IFC2026), an international startup competition for foreign entrepreneurs held at Incheon Startup Park this year has successfully come to a close.
According to Incheon Technopark (Incheon TP), IFC 2026 is a key component of the city's 2026 Global Scale-up Campus initiative, designed to help foreign entrepreneurs establish themselves in Korea's startup ecosystem.
Selected startups will receive office space at Incheon Startup Park along with access to business acceleration, networking, investment matching, and other startup support programs offered by Incheon TP to help expand their businesses in Incheon.
The initiative is expected to strengthen the global competitiveness of the local startup ecosystem while attracting promising overseas companies to the region.
Ganghwa History Museum to Open Special Exhibition on the Buddhist Afterlife
The Ganghwa History Museum will open a special exhibition exploring Myeongbu, the Buddhist realm where souls are judged after death.
Ganghwa-gun announced that the exhibition, titled “Buddhist Art of Ganghwa II: Jeondeungsa Temple – Between Life and Death, the World of Myeongbu,” will open on July 16 in the museum's first-floor special exhibition gallery.
The exhibition will feature Buddhist cultural artifacts from Jeondeungsa Temple related to beliefs surrounding Myeongbu.
Visitors will gain insight into how people during the Joseon Dynasty viewed the afterlife through the displayed artifacts.
