Gureopdo Power Facility Upgrade Planned as Electricity Demand Surges

Incheon’s Ongjin-gun is moving forward with plans to upgrade power generation facilities on Gureopdo, a popular backpacking destination off Incheon's coast. 

The move comes in response to growing electricity demand on the island. 

Ongjin-gun announced that it has recently completed the detailed design phase for a project to convert the island's power generation system to parallel operation.

Gureopdo currently generates its own electricity using three diesel generators. 

The need for a more stable power supply has grown, particularly since the direct passenger ferry Haenuri began service between Incheon Port and Gureopdo in November 2024, bringing a sharp increase in visitors and accommodations on the island.

Incheon Museum to Offer Traditional Cultural Experience for Families 

The Incheon Metropolitan City Museum will host a special summer vacation program called "Summer! Let's Play at the Museum" for families with children. 

The event will take place from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on July 25 at the museum's outdoor Woohyeon Madang and will feature a variety of traditional cultural activities and family-friendly games. 

In the event of rain, the program will be held on a smaller scale indoors. 

Participants will have the opportunity to enjoy hands-on activities such as dyeing fingernails with balsam flowers and making mother-of-pearl spinning tops with traditional patterns, traditional shuttlecocks, and folk painting fans.

Incheon Arts Center Presents ‘Summer Art Escape’ in the Heart of the City

The Incheon Culture & Arts Center is offering a refreshing lineup of cultural events to help residents beat the summer heat. 

From July 24 through August 19, the center will present a wide range of performances and exhibitions under the theme "Summer Art Escape," featuring productions by the Incheon City Arts Troupe, special performances, and exhibitions.

Incheon Rehabilitation Center's "Dad Gathering" Program Grows in Popularity

The Incheon Community Rehabilitation Center, operated by the city’s Public Agency for Social Service, says its "Dad Gathering" program has once again proven to be a popular initiative this year. 

The program pairs fathers with their disabled children for activities they can enjoy together. 

This year's gathering was held at the center on July 11 and was attended by 12 families. 

Ten of the participating families had elementary school-aged children, reflecting particularly strong interest among families with younger children. 

A center official said feedback from this year's participants will be incorporated to make next year's program even more meaningful.

Labor Rights Seminar Held for High School Seniors Entering the Workforce

High school seniors living in remote island regions have received practical labor rights education as they prepare to enter the workforce. 

The Incheon Metropolitan Saeil Center announced that it successfully completed a labor education program for all third-year students at Gyodong High School in Ganghwa-gun. 

Students learned about reviewing and writing employment contracts, responding to unpaid wages and calculating weekly holiday pay and severance pay, dealing with unfair dismissal and labor rights violations. 

They were also educated on the rights of workers on part-time job platforms, preventing workplace harassment and sexual harassment, and understanding the nation's four major social insurance programs. 

The center says it aims to help young people prevent labor rights violations before they begin their careers and reduce the risk of early career interruption.

Seohae-gu Inspects Neighborhood Improvement Project in Seonknam 3-dong

Incheon’s Seohae-gu has inspected the completed Seokgnam 3-dong residential environment improvement project to review its achievements and the operation of key facilities. 

The Haengbok Village Improvement Project costing 4 billion won was carried out to improve living conditions in the aging neighborhood. 

The project included the construction of a new community facility, the creation of a neighborhood rest area, and improvements to parking facilities, helping enhance the quality of life for local residents.
