Incheon introduces global city vision to overseas Korean youth
Incheon Metropolitan City has successfully concluded the Incheon chapter’s third and fourth Invitation Program for Next-Generation Overseas Koreans for 2026, hosted by the Overseas Koreans Agency and organized by the Overseas Koreans Cooperation Center.
The program was designed to give young overseas Koreans from around the world an opportunity to experience Korea's history and culture firsthand, strengthen their Korean identity, interact with local youth, and build global networks.
Building on the program, the city plans to further strengthen cooperation with the Overseas Koreans Agency and continue raising Incheon's profile as a global hub city growing together with the world's 7 million overseas Koreans, leveraging the future industrial competitiveness centered on Incheon International Airport and Songdo International City.
Incheon Daddy Childcare Angels complete Ganghwa cultural tour
Incheon Metropolitan City and the Incheon branch of the Korea Population, Health and Welfare Association announced that the “Incheon Daddy Childcare Angels” successfully held a father-child cultural experience program, Ganghwa History Tour, across Ganghwa Island on July 25.
The event, part of the city's initiative to encourage fathers' participation in childcare, was designed to strengthen emotional bonds between fathers and their children while offering a variety of educational activities that allowed families to experience Ganghwa's rich history and traditional culture through hands-on activities.
The Incheon Daddy Childcare Angels is one of the city's leading father-focused parenting communities.
Any father living in Incheon with a child in the third grade of elementary school or younger is eligible to join and participate in its various programs.
Incheon recruits storytellers to showcase Jemulpo from youth perspective
Incheon Metropolitan City is recruiting university students to highlight the transformation and attractions of Jemulpo from the perspective of youth in the 2026 Jemulpo College Student Storyteller program.
Applications will be accepted from July 27 to Aug. 7, with around 10 participants to be selected. Any university student who actively manages a personal social media account and has an interest in Jemulpo is eligible to apply.
Selected storytellers will work for five months, from August through December, creating content featuring landmarks, commercial districts, festivals, and experiential attractions throughout the Jemulpo area.
Incheon Youth Philharmonic's inaugural concert draws a full house
The Incheon Youth Philharmonic Orchestra's inaugural concert, “IYPO, The New Wave,” which also marked the orchestra's first regular concert, concluded to enthusiastic response from a packed audience at the Grand Theater of the Incheon Culture & Arts Center.
The youth orchestra was officially established in March to systematically nurture young musical talent and strengthen the foundation for Incheon's future cultural development.
After intensive training under the mentorship of the Incheon Philharmonic Orchestra, the young musicians opened the performance with Brahms' Academic Festival Overture, followed by Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto featuring violinist Kim Dami.
The concert concluded with Brahms' Symphony No. 1, showcasing the orchestra members' impressive musicianship and the promising new musical journey ahead, leaving a lasting impression on the audience.
Ongjin-gun continues childbirth incentive program with revised payment system
Incheon’s Ongjin-gun, an island county made up of 134 islands, has decided to continue its childbirth incentive program following consultations with the Ministry of Health and Welfare.
The incentive program had been scheduled to end this year. The county recently announced proposed revisions to its ordinance on childbirth and low birthrate support, saying the revised payment system will take effect next year after approval by the county council in September.
Recognizing the need to maintain childbirth incentives amid its continuing population decline, the county reopened discussions with the ministry in March and reached an agreement to continue the program under a revised payment structure.
Designated as a depopulation area in 2021, Ongjin-gun's population dropped to 19,996 in 2024 and fell further to 19,340 as of last month.
