All 16 beaches in Incheon pass environmental safety inspections
All 16 beaches and public waterfront recreation areas in Incheon that have been inspected ahead of the summer vacation season have met environmental safety standards.
All testing sites met the legal water quality standards for enterococci and E. coli, while tests on beach sand also found levels of five heavy metals, including lead, cadmium, and mercury, to be within safety limits.
The city's Institute of Health and Environment will continue conducting water quality inspections every two weeks throughout the beach season and will also regularly monitor radioactive substances along Incheon's coastline.
Malaria alert expanded to Gyeyang-gu following Ganghwa-gu
After issuing this year's first malaria alert for Ganghwa-gu on July 14, Incheon Metropolitan City has now issued a second alert for Gyeyang-gu as of July 29.
The city said the alert was prompted by the recent detection of a cluster of malaria cases in Gyeyang-gu.
The city has begun intensive mosquito control operations, expanded rapid diagnostic testing for early detection, and stepped up public awareness campaigns in the affected area.
Incheon cracks down on children's snack manufacturers and retailers
Incheon Metropolitan City's Special Judicial Police Division has cited three businesses for violations following a special inspection of manufacturers and processors of children's preferred foods conducted from July 6 to 16.
The special inspection was designed to create a safer food environment for children by inspecting businesses that manufacture and sell products such as bread, cookies, chocolate, and candy and prevent child-related food safety incidents.
Investigators found one business in violation of food labeling regulations and two businesses that had stored products past their expiration dates for cooking purposes.
The city plans to complete judicial procedures, including questioning the suspects, before referring the cases to prosecutors.
Incheon cites four processed food businesses in hygiene inspection
Incheon Metropolitan City has cited four local businesses for violating the Food Sanitation Act following special hygiene inspections of on-site manufacturers and retailers of processed foods, including bread and confectionery products.
The city said it carried out the joint inspections with district governments from July 15 to 24.
The inspections were launched to strengthen food safety as demand for processed foods and online and delivery sales continues to grow.
A total of 106 businesses were inspected through a cross-inspection system involving the city and district governments.
Authorities found one business that failed to conduct mandatory in-house quality testing and three businesses that violated sanitary handling standards for food products.
Administrative penalties will be imposed on the four businesses.
