Incheon urges travelers to guard against mosquito-borne diseases
Incheon Metropolitan City is urging residents to take extra precautions against mosquito-borne diseases as overseas travel increases during the summer vacation season.
Mosquito-borne illnesses are transmitted through infected mosquitoes, with diseases such as dengue fever, chikungunya, and Zika virus infection currently circulating in various countries.
The city advises travelers to check disease outbreaks and prevention guidelines for their destination through the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's Overseas Infectious Disease NOW website before departure and to receive any recommended vaccinations in advance.
Incheon City Hall plaza to host mugunghwa exhibition marking the 81st Liberation Day
Incheon Metropolitan City will hold a mugunghwa (Rose of Sharon) exhibition at Aeddeul Plaza in front of Incheon City Hall from Aug. 5 to 17 to commemorate the 81st anniversary of Korea's Liberation Day.
The exhibition will feature around 500 mugunghwa specimens cultivated by the city's Gyeyang Park Office, giving visitors an opportunity to appreciate the national flower and learn about its cultural and ecological significance.
On Aug. 15, additional public events centered on the mugunghwa, including a free sapling giveaway, will be held at the outdoor plaza of the Incheon Culture & Arts Center, where the city's official Liberation Day ceremony will take place.
Incheon seeks applications for 'Good Price Businesses' to help stabilize prices
Incheon Metropolitan City is recruiting Good Price Businesses through Sept. 4 as part of efforts to stabilize consumer prices and support local small businesses.
Businesses eligible for the designation include independently operated restaurants, barber shops, beauty salons, and laundromats, while franchise businesses are excluded.
Currently, 536 businesses in Incheon hold the designation. Businesses selected for the program receive benefits including additional points when applying for small business management improvement projects, subsidies for utility costs, and promotional support.
Revamped Cheongna Lake Park and Canal Way to open Aug. 5
Cheongna Lake Park and the Canal Way waterfront will reopen to the public on Aug. 5 following the completion of new waterside facilities and landscape lighting installations.
According to the Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority, the renovation project was designed to create a space where visitors can relax by the water during the day and enjoy scenic nighttime waterfront views after sunset.
The waterside facilities will operate through Sept. 23 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and again from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., although operations may be suspended during severe weather for safety reasons.
Incheon considers modular housing and AI services for Gwaengiburi Village renewal
Incheon Metropolitan City is considering incorporating modular housing and AI services into a housing improvement project for Gwaengiburi Village, a well-known slum district made up of tiny homes made famous as the setting of a popular novel.
The city said it is reviewing revisions to the redevelopment plan for the project in Manseok-dong, Jemulpo-gu.
Launched in April 2024, the project aims to improve poor living conditions by constructing 50 public rental housing units to help current residents remain in the community.
The city believes modular construction could significantly shorten the construction period, allowing residents to relocate more quickly and settle into stable housing sooner.
Incheon launches annual social survey to track changes in residents' lives
Incheon Metropolitan City will conduct the 2026 Incheon Social Survey from Aug. 3 through Sept. 16, covering a sample of 9,000 households.
The annual survey gathers data on residents' living conditions, public awareness, and overall quality of life, with the findings serving as a foundation for policymaking and improvements to public services.
This year's survey has been updated to better reflect changes resulting from the city's administrative restructuring.
The revised survey is expected to provide a more comprehensive picture of changing lifestyles and emerging policy needs among residents.
