Beyond the thick, heavy fog that frequently blankets Incheon Port, there is a team of elite operators who represent a stranded mariner’s last hope. Even when navigating violent rip currents and the deceptively treacherous terrain of the West Sea mudflats, the Incheon Coast Guard Station Rescue Team never wavers in its life-saving mission. For these operators, a 24-hour shift is far more than a standard tour of duty—it is a solemn, unwavering commitment to safeguarding human life at sea.
인천항의 짙은 안개 너머, 누군가의 마지막 희망이 되는 사람들이 있다. 거친 조류와 보이지 않는 갯벌의 덫 속에서도 결코 구조의 손실을 놓지 않는 인천해양경찰서 구조대. 그들의 24시간은 단순한 근무를 넘어, 국민의 생명을 향한 숭고한 약속이다.

A RELENTLESS MISSION, 24-HOUR RADAR
멈추지 않는 심장, 24시간의 사투
The waves of the West Sea never rest, and neither does the Incheon Coast Guard Station Rescue Team. Under the leadership of the rescue team chief, 21 elite rescue operators are organized into three tactical teams, maintaining a 24-hour rotating readiness system.
서해의 파도는 잠들지 않고, 인천해양경찰서 구조대의 시계 또한 멈추지 않는다. 구조대장을 중심으로 일사불란하게 움직이는 3개 팀, 총 21명의 정예요원들은 구조와 구급이라는 각자의 전문성을 무기 삼아 3교대의 긴장감 속에 몸을 던진다.
Between January 2024 and April 17, 2026, the team responded to 385 maritime emergencies. From deep-sea vessel collisions to coastal drowning incidents and high-risk mudflat entrapments, every single deployment is driven by a singular, non-negotiable objective: bringing everyone back to shore safely. Even in pitch darkness and sub-zero waters, these rescue divers push forward because they know a family is waiting on the docks.
그들의 현장은 사무실이자 전장이다. 2024.1.~2026.4.17. 현재까지. 이들이 바다로 달려나간 횟수는 총 385건. 2024년 한 해에만 215건의 출동을 기록했고, 2025년 144건, 올해 들어서도 벌써 26건의 사투를 벌였다. 해상 선박사고부터 연안 익수자, 갯벌 고립자까지, 사고의 유형은 다양하지만 목표는 단 하나, ‘전원 무사 구조’다. 칠흑 같은 어둠속에서도, 살을 에듯 차가운 바닷물 속에서도 그들이 나아갈 수 있는 이유는 단 하나, 누군가의 소중한 가족이 그곳에서 기다리고 있기 때문이다. 지나온 기록들은 이들의 존재 가치를 증명하는 훈장과도 같다. 특히 지난 2025년의 주요성과는 구조대의 입체적인 대응 역량을 가감 없이 보여준다.

On March 13, 2025, around noon, the sandbar near Hanagae Beach suddenly became hazardous. An elderly couple in their 60s was stranded by rising seawater while exploring the mudflats, unaware of the incoming tide. The rescue team promptly initiated a coordinated air and sea operation, successfully rescuing the couple through a combined response from both sky and sea.
2025년 3월13일 정오 무렵, 평화롭던 하나개해수욕장 풀등이 순식간에 공포의 현장으로 변했다. 밀물 시간을 인지하지 못한 채 갯벌 활동에 열중하던 60대 부부가 차오르는 바닷물에 고립된 것이다. 절체절명의 순간, 구조대는 항공과 해상을 잇는 유기적 협업 시스템을 가동했다. 하늘과 바다에서 동시에 좁혀온 구조의 그물망은 단 한 치의 오차도 허용하지 않았고, 부부는 무사히 가족의 품으로 돌아갔다.

On the night of June 8 that year, the mudflats near Nogari Beach on Yeongheungdo Island became perilous due to darkness and shallow waters. After reports indicated that five tourists were stranded, the rescue team immediately launched an operation and successfully saved all five individuals through their training and teamwork, despite near-zero visibility. This incident showcased the Incheon Coast Guard Station Rescue Team’s quick response capabilities and strong sense of duty.
같은 해 6월 8일 밤, 영흥도 노가리해변 인근 갯벌은 야간이라는 악조건과 저수심이라는 지형적 한계가 겹친 사지(死地)였다. 관광객 5명이 고립되었다는 급보에 구조대는 망설임 없이 어둠 속으로 뛰어들었다. 한치 앞도 보이지 않는 상황에서 오직 훈련된 감각과 서로에 대한 신뢰로 5명 전원을 구조했다. 이는 인천해경 구조대의 대응 역량이 단순히 기술을 넘어 ‘의지’의 영역에 닿아 있음을 보여준 사례였다.

The Incheon Coast Guard Station Rescue Team is constantly looking toward the next horizon of maritime safety. Refusing to rest on past accolades, the team continuously refines its tactical capabilities. The sea is a space of beauty and recreation for the public, but it can turn hostile in an instant. In those dark moments, this rescue team is the force that transforms absolute despair into survival.
인천해양경찰서 구조대의 시선은 이제 더 먼 바다, 더 안전한 내일을 향하고 있다. 그들은 오늘의 성공에 안주하지 않고 스스로를 더욱 날카롭게 갈고 닦는다. 바다는 누구에게나 평등하지만 때로는 잔혹한 얼굴을 드러낸다. 그 잔혹함 앞에서 인간의 무력감을 희망으로 바꾸는 이들이 바로 인천해양경찰서 구조대다.

Carrying the immense weight of this daily reality, they head out into the rough swells day after day. What they protect is not merely a stretch of water, but the everyday peace of mind of the community. They remain the true, true guardians of the West Sea.
