- Concurrent operation of regular commuter routes and demand-response service... Enhancing resident mobility convenience -

Incheon Metropolitan City (Mayor Yoo Jeong-bok) announced it will extend the temporary operation of the current demand-responsive (I-MOD) bus service in Geomdan New Town until June 2026 to improve public transportation convenience for residents.

The Geomdan New Town Demand-Response Bus (I-MOD) operates on five regular routes during peak commuting hours. Outside these times, it switches to demand-response service. This customized transportation service calculates the optimal route upon user request, moves to a designated bus stop, and then quickly transports passengers to their destination.

Incheon City has operated the demand-responsive (I-MOD) bus since September 2021 as part of the ‘Geomdan New City Regional Transportation Improvement Plan’ to alleviate transportation inconveniences for early residents. The project was originally scheduled to end this year.

However, considering the planned phased introduction of three new city bus routes, two route adjustments, and five additional intercity buses in the second half of 2026, along with high user satisfaction resulting from service improvements like fare reductions and expanded stops, the city made a comprehensive decision.

Accordingly, Incheon City has decided to temporarily extend the operation until the first half of 2026, with the active cooperation of the project implementers, Incheon Urban Development Corporation (IH) and Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH).

The additional project cost for this temporary extension is approximately 800 million won, which will be jointly borne by IH and LH, the project implementers for the Geomdan housing site. A total of 6 vehicles (16-seaters) will be deployed. During peak commuting hours (6:00 AM to 8:30 AM and 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM), 5 vehicles will operate as demand-responsive (I-MOD) shuttles circulating through 4 zones, while 1 vehicle will provide demand-responsive service for internal transportation within Geomdan New Town. Outside of peak hours, all six buses will switch to demand-responsive mode to support internal transportation within the new town.

Jang Cheol-bae, Director of the City's Transportation Bureau, stated, “This temporary extension of the demand-responsive bus (I-MOD) service will significantly improve not only the commuting but also the daily mobility convenience for Geomdan New Town residents.” He added, “We will continue to actively reflect residents' opinions to resolve public transportation inconveniences and strive continuously to enhance citizens' transportation welfare.”
