Incheon’s Talents Embark on a Global Journey through Overseas Training

Incheon Metropolitan City is launching an overseas training program for university students as part of its initiative to become a top 10 global city. The program, which received applications from 468 students aged 19 to 34 who graduated from high schools in Incheon, will send 25 selected students to RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia. From the end of July to the end of August, these students will participate in a 5-week short-term training program, gaining exposure to local culture and visiting various landmarks.


New York and Incheon Students to Begin International Exchanges Next Month

On the 11th (local time), Superintendent Do Seong-hoon of the Incheon Metropolitan City Office of Education visited the New York City Department of Education. The very purpose of the visit was to discuss how to cooperate to facilitate cultural exchange among students in both cities. According to the New York City Department of Education, there are over 1.1 million students receiving education in more than 1,700 schools in New York City. Both institutions have discussed specific matters and plans to initiate international exchanges for students from next year.


35th Ganghwa County Wanggol Craft Competition’ to Be Hosted to Upheld Its Traditional Culture

The ‘35th Ganghwa County Wanggol Craft Competition’ is now open for applications until the 19th, announced by Incheon’s Ganghwa County. This annual event, celebrating its 35th year, is held every July to promote the unique Wanggol crafts of Ganghwa County as well as to foster the development of traditional culture. All Wanggol craftsmen based in Ganghwa County are welcome to participate. Applications can be made through the local community centers.


New Habitat for ‘Endangered Species’ Spoonbill Found in Incheon 

A new habitat for the Spoonbill, a Class I endangered species and Natural Monument No. 205-1, has been discovered in Incheon by a local environmental group. The Yeongjong Environmental Union has reported the sighting of 80 adult Spoonbills on an island in the Unbuk-dong area. This discovery was made following a two-month monitoring period that started in March. Spoonbills, which are found across East Asia including Korea, China, Japan, and Hong Kong, are now estimated to number just over 5,200 worldwide They can occasionally be seen in the West Sea region, a major breeding ground. In 2021, the city even designated the Spoonbill as the ‘flagship species of Incheon’.
